There’s no doubt Amir Khan’s main and immediate goal right now is getting a rematch against Lamont Peterson, the man who beat him to take away the WBA and IBF Light Welterweight titles, but he’s still hoping that his earlier plans, of facing Floyd Mayweather by the end of 2012, haven’t been hampered by recent events.

It was the plan all along. Beating Peterson in Washington, making it clear has no one else to beat in the Light Welterweight division as Timothy Bradley showed no intention of fighting him. In 2012, it was supposed to be a new challenge, a new division. Make the move up to Welterweight, take a tune up fight against a 147 pounder and by the end of it all, get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

My ideal opponent is Floyd Mayweather Jnr. This fight has only put me back three months … so a Floyd Mayweather fight is definitely a possibility for the end of this year.

The way Khan sees it, he should get the rematch, and the WBA has already ordered one. The controversial point ducking by the referee, the 10 minute delay with the scorecards and Mr. Mustafa Ameen, also with the scorecards make too many things questionable about this fight. The WBA haven’t called it a no-contest, like Khan would have wanted, but Peterson, in order to keep the belt, needs to accept a rematch against Khan.

However, Lamont Peterson seems to be thinking bigger and richer. He refused an immediate offer from Golden Boy Promotions for a rematch, something around $1 million, and is still entertaining the chance of fighting Manny Pacquiao in May, although he seems like the least likely opponent. Khan, being the sore loser he is, no matter the conditions, has his own reasons for Peterson for not wanting a rematch.

I think Lamont Peterson knows he will get beat again so he wants to give up the title and go and chase the money. Does Manny Pacquiao really want to fight someone who he’s easily going to beat? Freddie Roach would really prefer me to fight Peterson again.

I think he knows he lost the last fight, and he knows he’ll lose if we meet again. That’s why he’s making all these little excuses. If he really thinks I’m a sore loser, then lets’s have it again. Because I know if we meet again it won’t go the distance, I’ll knock him out. I have a 10-week training camp so I envisage the Peterson rematch to be in April or May.

Afterwards? Floyd Mayweather jail sentence getting pushed back to June means he’ll get his May fight, possibly against Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather himself insists he doesn’t want anyone else but the Filipino champion. Afterwards? Lets say he comes out of prison around August? A December fight with Amir Khan, or anyone else, is very possible.
