Even though he scored twice in the impressive and important 4-0 win by Real Madrid over FC Copenhagen, Angel di Maria had his best moment of the night and the best of the Champions League evening in general with a rabona assist to help Cristiano Ronaldo score another header.
With all of the pressure and expectations built up after the loss in the derby, Real Madrid had to put on a show in order to silence some critics and to bring back lost confidence. Di Maria himself was probably enjoying the fact that there was no question about his position in the lineup – Gareth Bale is injured, and wasn’t even sitting on the bench.
In the second half, as Real Madrid continued to press on in order to avoid an embarrassing moment (and there were a couple of chances for Copenhagen, mostly through crosses and corner kicks), Di Maria broke from the right wing into the Copenhagen penalty box. Cristiano Ronaldo escaped his marker, and made a clever motion towards the near post. Di Maria, avoiding the use of his weaker right foot, pulled off the creative yet efficient rabona chip in order to provide the spectacular assist.
