Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola

Believe it or not, it’s not the 3-0 defeat in the League Cup final to Manchester City that makes Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger seem foolish. The comments he made after the match, complemented by his denial of the club’s constant decline, that turned him into a joke once again.

The French manager, on his way towards a 6th place finish with the club and a second straight season without Champions League football unless the Gunners win the Europa League (they’re 10 points out of 4th place in the Premier League), mostly complained about officials, refereeing and VAR after his side conceded goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Davis Silva.

He complained about the fourth official. Wenger actually asked him about added time, to which the official replied (According to Wenger): why do you want more time?

But that wasn’t it from Wenger, who slammed the officiating, and basically made it seem like Arsenal were unlucky to go down the losers after the Wembley clash.

Congratulations to City. We self inflicted our punishment because we had an unbelievable chance at 0-0. We gave them a goal at 1-0 and were unlucky in the second half. The second goal was offside.

The Champions League streak ended with a 5th place finish last season. This season, Arsenal have fallen even further behind what seems to be a ‘Big 5’ sorority, and Wenger, who is over 21 years at the Arsenal gig and without a championship in almost 14, continues to ignore what’s happening to the club under his charge, or at least like he’s unaware or unconcerned.
