Mike Dean was the worst referee of the day, despite Howard Webb also officiating an earlier match. Vincent Kompany should never have been sent off. Laurent Koscielny, on the other hand, should have been. Arsene Wenger needs to learn from Dean, and send away this terrible centre back from Arsenal.
This isn’t the first time Koscielny has cost Arsenal a match since arriving at the club from Lorient in 2010 for £8.45 million. Wenger has a thing for elegant players, and Koscielny is certainly one of the more elegant when it comes to central defenders. He also has a pretty good aerial game, scoring five goals for the side since arriving.
But despite his height, he’s not very strong. Despite his speed, he doesn’t know where to stand and where to run. His timing on tackling is often, well, bad, if not terrible, and he has these short circuiting moments in his brain, when he decided to make the most obvious of fouls right in front of the referee, which has happened with Arsenal and the national team.
Koscielny will easily find another gig in Europe. Being a former Arsenal player and a French international helps hides the fact that he’s an expensive figure that does more harm than good, especially in the big matches. For Arsenal’s sake, Arsene Wenger needs to realize that Koscielny isn’t going to get better, and his mistakes will continue to be painful for Arsenal. January is a good time to raise some funds by selling players, starting with overrated Frenchman.
