How do you get the mega-fight that just ain’t happening? While Floyd Mayweather made headlines today with his judicial problems, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, took the opportuinity of Pacquiao’s media day workout as he prepares for his Juan Manuel Marquez fight (November 12) to declare how much he doesn’t believe we’ll actually get the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.
Working both angles, trainer Freddie Roach keeps insisting on how this fight is crucial for Manny, how important it is for him to get this deal done and beat Mayweather, as his career won’t last forever. Roach said Pacquiao will probably be hanging up his gloves in two, three years, to pursue his political career. That means about four, five more fights left before he says goodbye to the ring. It’s important to his legacy to fight Mayweather.
But back to pessimism – Bob Arum, Top Rank CEO, just doesn’t belive it’ll happen. That fight will never, ever happen, as he put it. Why? …Ever, ever happen because of Mayweather. Simple enough right. Well, putting it that simply wouldn’t get Floyd Mayweather any more interested than he is right now, which isn’t a whole lot. Arum needed to do a bit of explaining to get the Mayweather camp attention.
When Mayweather talks about how he hates Top Rank he’s talking BS. What Mayweather hates is Manny’s right hand. Mayweather has no chin and Manny will knock him out. Pacquiao and Mayweather is a three or four-round fight. Period. And who knows that best? Mayweather. Does anyone believe Mayweather will keep his mouth shut to that kind of talk? No way. Will he be moved enough to take the fight? Too soon to tell. Probably not. So why not add some more?
He understands boxing and Mayweather can not compete with Manny. It’s the right hand of Manny that is preventing that fight from happening. If Manny agreed just to jab with the right hand the fight would be made in 30 seconds. Don’t kid yourself. I know Mayweather, Everything else is BS.
To end his verbal assault on Mayweather ego, he mentioned how Mayweather tarnished boxing with his dubious KO against Victor Ortiz. I’m agreeing on Mayweather not taking the Manny Pacquiao fight because he’s afraid to erase that 0 from his losses column, but he didn’t tarnish boxing. It wasn’t great sportsmanship, but Victor Ortiz has only himself to blame. The sport has plenty of other problems doing it’s Tarnishing.
Roach, like we already wrote about yesterday, is taking a different approach. The good for boxing, good for Mayweather course - I think it would be good for boxing and good for the world if that fight happened. f Floyd ends up undefeated but didn’t fight Manny Pacquiao it’s going to haunt him for the rest of his life, but I don’t think he thinks logically. It’s always something with him. Only he knows why he won’t take this fight. They’re both in their prime right now and I think it needs to happen now. People around the world are getting tired of it. They need to fight already.
As usual, everybody’s blaming Mayweather. Manny Pacquiao didn’t have a lot of words on the matter, but did mention money as a likely issue. Really? Or more Psych tricks to lure the big fish into the net - Maybe the promoters can not afford him. I think that’s the reason. The promoters cannot afford him. What he’s asking is hard.
