The dream of the three-peat is almost over, as the Miami Heat lose again in the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. Another great game for Kawhi Leonard, resulting in an endless list of memes and jokes making fun of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Mario Chalmers and of course, the “loyal” Miami fans.
This time the Heat didn’t even make an impressive comeback. The were down by 19 points at the half and things got worse during the third quarter, making the fourth one long patch of garbage time.
LeBron James was the only Heat player with a good game, which leads some to think that now he is pondering the Decision 2.0. It’s probably quite a stretch to think that one Finals loss will break up this whole group. If there’s on thing to learn from the Spurs as a franchise, is that there’s nothing wrong with enduring a year or seven of not finishing with the title.
But the Heat are different. They got together in a bang, and everything they’ve done since, good or bad, has been filled with scrutiny. It makes no one raise their eyebrows to see how happy a lot of “neutral” NBA fans are about seeing the Heat look this bad on their home court in front of their “loyal” fans. Losing the next game and making the Spurs champions in five will only make things worse.
