The uglier side, the violent side of football usually comes out at its worst in the lower leagues around the globe, but Marouane Fellaini is also a member of the worst acts committed on the football pitches this season with his headbutt to the face of Ryan Shawcross, joining other brawls, out of hand fans and goalkeepers that protect the honor of their fans.
Marouane Fellaini Headbutt
It’s a special season for Fellaini, breaking out and showcasing his attacking skills, helping Everton to fifth in the Premier League with 8 goals and 3 assists this season. That doesn’t mean that his temper has disappeared, as he showed in the match against Stoke City, releasing a vicious headbutt to the face of Ryan Shawcross.
More dirty fouls From around the world
This one has gotten the nickname, quite accordingly, the nutcracker. Rooi Mahamutsa of Orlando Pirates with a vicious kick to the family jewels of Thabiso Nkoana from SuperSport United that got him sent off.
Then there are the two footed challenges, which are always potential leg breakers. The “best” one this season comes from Saudi Arabia, as Yaseen Nogri of Al-Taawon tries to take out Yahya Kabi of Al-Shoalah.
Fans getting involved
There’s nothing new about violent men visiting football pitches and trying to dish out their own brand of justice. This one comes from Odessa in Ukraine during a match between Chernomorets and FC Metalist, as a fan blazes onto the pitch and attacks a linesman.
Revenge of the Linesman
In Turkey, during a preseason match between lower league clubs Altinorduspor (in red) and Pazarspor (blue & black). The linesman suddenly burst onto the pitch and punched Altinorduspor’s number two in the face, which results in a massive brawl.
Everyone hates the referee
From Brazil, in a Campeonato Amazonense match between Iranduba and Sao Raimundo-AM, Volante Derlan attacks the referee and gets arrested on the pitch for it.
Fan Provocation in Cluj derby
Some matches don’t need much to get out of hand. In the Cluj derby, Portuguese captain of CFR Cluj, Cadu, decided to celebrate his penalty goal by running towards the fans of Universitatea Cluj, which obviously triggered a few hostile reactions from Universitatea players.
Bradford vs Crawley Town
Five players sent off in the dressing room after a post-match brawl following following Crawley’s win at Bradford, after Crawly beat Bradford in Valley Parade during a league two match.
