A world record was broken 12 times in the 2015 Swimming world championships in Kazan, often by the same person in the same event day after day. Those who stood out were Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in butterfly events, Adam Peaty of the United Kingdom in the breaststroke and above all of them was Katie Ledecky of the United States with an incredibly dominant week, taking no less than five gold medals. The final day of the swimming world championships was packed with events, and saw one American gold medal with the 4×100 men’s medley relay, enough to put them on top of the medal table in both overall and golds. Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy won the men’s 1500 meters freestyle; Camille Lacourt of France took the men’s 50 meters backstroke; Daiya Seto of Japan won the men’s 400 meters individual medley; Bronte Campbell of Australia won the women’s 50 meters freestyle; Jennie Johansson of Sweden won the women’s 50 meters breaststroke; Katinka Hosszu of Hungary won the women’s 400 meters individual medley and China won the final race of the championship, the women’s 4×100 medley relay. Phelps vs Le Clos – The Best (and only?) Feud in Swimming

It seems that Michael Phelps posting impressive times in butterfly swims away from the World Championships is re-igniting something a personal feud between him and Chad Le Clos, who has been doing a lot of trash talking (Phelps does too, on a more minor scale), already getting ready for when the two clash in the pool a year from now in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Day 7 of the world championships in swimming was about known names dominating their events: Katie Ledecky of the United States with her fifth gold, this time in 800 meters freestyle. Florent Manaudou of France in the men’s 50 meters freestyle. Chad le Clos of South Africa in the men’s 100 meters butterfly. Emily Seebohm of Australia in the women’s 200 meters backstroke. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in the women’s 50 meters butterfly. The Americans got a second gold medal in the mixed 4×100 meters freestyle relay, setting a new world record with the team of Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian, Simone Manuel and Missy Franklin. More

Day 6 in the swimming pool was highlighted by two gold medals for Australia – Mitch Larkin in the men’s 200 meters backstroke and Bronte Campbell in the women’s 100 meters freestyle. Great Britain picked up a wonderful gold in the 4×200 men’s freestyle relay thanks to James Guy, Marko Koch of Germany picked up gold in the men’s 200 meters breaststroke and Kanako Watanbe of Japan brought gold in the women’s 200 meters breastroke. The United States finally had someone other than Katie Ledecky pick up a gold medal, as Ryan Lochte won another 200 meter’s individual medley gold medal. Ledecky got her fourth gold of the championship by closing the 4×200 freestyle relay. Ning Zetao of China won the men’s 100 meters freestyle and compatriot Fu Yanhui won the women’s 50 meters backstroke. Natsumi Hoshi of Japan won the gold in the women’s 200 meters butterfly race. In the fourth day of swimming in the world aquatic championships, Adam Peaty took two gold medals – one in the 50 meters breaststroke and the other in the mixed 4×100 meters medley relay. Sun Yang of China won the men’s 800 meters freestyle again, Laszlo Cseh took gold in the men’s 200 meters butterfly and Katie Ledecky now has three gold medals from the Kazan meet after winning the women’s 200 meters freestyle. A strong day for Australia with two gold medals – Emily Seebohm winning the women’s 100 meters backstroke, and Mitch Larkin taking the men’s 100 meters backstroke. Katie Ledecky brought gold for the United States and smashed the world record in the women’s 1500 meters freestyle. James Guy produced another British gold medal in the men’s 200 meters freestyle, while Yulia Yefimova closed the day with the first Russian gold, winning the women’s 100 meters breaststroke. More
