The NBA deciding to suspended Draymond Green for hitting LeBron James resultes in plenty of hilarious memes, and might have also helped the Cleveland Cavaliers in extending the NBA Finals series against the Golden State Warriors.
The memes mostly make fun of James. Why? Because it’s the trendy thing to do. So what if Green has been clobbering players all over the nation since the playoffs began, and to be frank, since his career began? The narrative is always to make fun of James and his “softness”. It probably makes the memes funnier.
But James being made fun of isn’t the issue here. The issue is the league finally finding enough discipline points and flagrant foul to give Green the suspension he deserves. It probably should have happened in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
James is fighting a losing battle if he’s actually focused on changing the narrative about him. The best thing he can do is keep this series alive, and maybe somehow forcing a game 7 down the road. It’s close to impossible, even without Green playing, but there’s always a first time for a team to turn a 1-3 deficit in a final into a championship. The best time is always now.
