It didn’t take long for the match between Chievo and Roma to take an ugly turn after Radja Nainggolan broke the leg of Federico Mattiello after a dangerous and careless tackle.

It didn’t take a replay to show that damage was done. From every possible angle, Mattiello’s leg seems to split and barely hang on something to remain in one piece. Naingoolan was obviously hurt from the tackle due to the strength and speed of it, but somehow only got booked for the foul. Sure, he didn’t seem to be sliding in with the intent of injuring Mattiello, but you can’t go into a tackle like that.

Mattiello still hasn’t celebrated his 20th birthday. He is on loan with Chievo, on contract with Juventus who he has played only twice for since being raised to the senior team.

He is a promising young talent with appearances for the Italian youth teams (U-16, U-17 and U-20) but now, it seems like he’ll need to go through a very lengthy rehabilitation process which often followed this kind of injuries, that always cause more damage to the victim than the offender.
