NBA Rumors: Boston Celtics Likely to Re-Sign Jae Crowder

It was a mostly productive time for Jae Crowder in two thirds of a season with the Boston Celtics. A restricted free agent this offseason, both sides are likely to come to an agreement.

Crowder showed in 57 games that he’s more than just an energy and defense guy coming off the bench, averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 24.2 minutes a night. He wasn’t valued a whole lot by the Dallas Mavericks during the first third of the season, and the Rajon Rondo trade that got him a new place to be appreciated makes him an interesting option for quite a few teams in the upcoming free agency.

Crowder, drafted in 2012 by the Cavaliers, is a restricted free agent. It gives the Celtics the option of matching any offer he gets, although it seems that both sides feel like they’re going to end up with each other. At least that’s the vibe Crowder was giving when speaking to the Boston Herald.

The feeling of me coming back to Boston is mutual, from what I can tell. I just hope we can get something done. But I do get a good feeling from the team. Of course you want to find out what your value might be. Time will tell that. I’m talking to my people and others, and everything will eventually show. My worth will be revealed, but I’m confident in myself and in my team (the Celtics).

Crowder didn’t do a whole lot in the postseason, but was one of the Celtics’ better performers as they got swept by the Cavaliers, averaging 10.8 points in four games. He has been rehabbing his injured knee (nothing too serious) in Florida, and was more than pleased to hear that team president Rich Gotham and co-president and basketball operations director Danny Ainge have both mentioned re-signing Crowder as a priority.

Free agency is approaching quickly, and I’m sure I’ll be talking to Danny soon. As I’ve told you guys, the second half of the season was something special to be a part of. I saw it as something that was going in the right direction for me.  I can’t ask to play for anyone better than Brad. He just wants you to play the right way. I can speak for other players as well when I say this. Brad has that kind of effect on players. I was able to make plays in that system, not only for myself but also other players at a high rate. One thing I did show was that I can make plays.
