The NFL offseason preseason is often a time of suspensions and punishments instead of just football, as it’s been announced that Wes Welker of the Denver Broncos tested positive for Performance Enhancing Drugs, which means he’ll be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season.

College Football – 2014 Week 1 Rankings
There’s no real change in the top of the rankings after the week 1 games, as Florida State and Alabama occupy the top two despite unimpressive wins. Georgia (after beating Clemson) and Texas A&M (defeating South Carolina) are the high risers, scorching their way into the top 10, while Louisville beating Miami made them the only new team in the rankings, coming in instead of an unimpressive Washington team.

NFL Rumors – Houston Texans Sticking With Ryan Fitzpatrick
There doesn’t seem to be a whole of a lot improvement when it comes to the quarterback situation for the Houston Texans over the preseason compared with last year’s disaster. Still, despite trading for Ryan Mallett and selecting Tom Savage in the draft, Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the prime candidate to start in week 1 and stay in that position through 2014.

Louisville Over Miami – The ACC Isn’t so Bad
A new (not exactly) head coach in Bobby Petrino and a new conference, the ACC, didn’t stop Louisville from having the right kind of start to their season, beating Miami 31-13 in a dominant performance from their new quarterback, Will Gardner, who got plenty of help from Dominique Brown when it came to running the ball.

Baylor Over SMU – How to Debut in a New Stadium
A 45-0 shutout to open up new McClane Stadium is pretty much the best way Baylor could have asked for as they start the 2014 season ranked #10 in the nation, beating SMU behind a strong performance from Bryce Petty and a defense that did an excellent job of keeping the Mustangs from achieving any kind of success.

What a difference having another striker makes, as Liverpool returned to their diamond formation and once again routed a sad looking Tottenham side, beating Spurs 3-0 at White Hart Lane through another brilliant display from Raheem Sterling who scored the opening goal, followed by Steven Gerrard and Alberto Moreno also putting their name on the score sheet.

Georgia Over Clemson – One Monster Player is All it Takes
A very different tone in the importance of the Georgia – Clemson game compared to last season, when national title implications seemed to be on the line. In 2014, it’s a bit mulled down, but it didn’t stop the game from being a huge showcase of supreme talent, as Todd Gurley became a one-man wrecking crew with his running, leading the Bulldogs to a 45-21 win.
