NFL Rumors – Cleveland Browns Will Start Brian Hoyer Over Johnny Manziel
In a draft without big stars, Johnny Manziel stole the show by being the 22nd overall pick, heading to the Cleveland Browns. Being a first round pick doesn’t make him the starting quarterback, and if no injuries occur between now and week, 1, Brian Hoyer will be the one under center for the Browns this season.

NFL Rumors – Tennessee Titans Will Use Bishop Sankey a Lot
One big name and highly used running back is gone, so the Tennessee Titans need to find ways and fill that hole. Bishop Sankey coming out of Washington was the first running back taken in the 2014 NFL draft, and will be carrying plenty of expectations going into his rookie season, and hopefully also plenty of the ball as well.

NFL Rumors – Andre Johnson Wants to Leave the Houston Texans
After 11 seasons with the Houston Texans, Andre Johnson might be trying to get himself out of a franchise that he doesn’t like the direction its taking. Instead of building on their playoff appearances and getting closer to winning a Super Bowl, it seems like they’re headed towards another rebuilding phase, something Johnson doesn’t want to be a part of.

College Football Realignment – ACC Not Changing Anything
The moves and realignment in College Football over the last few years have made conferences change their schedule and though process. The ACC, like it’s “bigger sister”, the SEC, has decided to keep their conference schedule an 8-game one while slowly moving towards a tougher nonconference schedule, although it already doesn’t make much of a difference considering some of the annual rivalries most of their schools have.

San Francisco 49ers – Alex Smith is the Trade That Keeps on Giving
The San Francisco 49ers have been making mostly great decisions in terms of their personnel over the last few years, building a Super Bowl contender. Their biggest move last season was trading Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for a package of trade picks. While Smith is doing well with his new team, it might be safe to say the Niners came out very happy from their haul in this deal.

NFL Draft – Texas Longhorns Don’t Get a Single Player in
If their record in the Big 12 and overall decline in the power rankings of college football haven’t been enough, another example of just how far Texas have fallen in recent years came in the terrible draft for the school and its players in 2014, as for the first time in 77 years not a single player was taken in any of the rounds.

There’s nothing impressive about Michael Sam as a potential NFL player when looking only at his football skills. But beyond that? His social importance is a different thing, and it was hard to decide whether his place in the draft (sixth round, 249th overall) as the St. Louis Rams picked him had anything to do with it.

2014 NFL Draft Day Trades
Trading down or up, draft day is always a busy time for General managers of NFL teams swapping picks. The Cleveland Browns were the busiest team on day 1, using their moves up the chains to land Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel, while the Bills had the highest trading up move of them all to help them select Sammy Watkins.

2014 NFL Draft – First Round Picks
Not a lot of surprises in the first round of the NFL draft, as Jadeveon Clowney became the number one pick for the Houston Texans, opting for the best player instead of the biggest need. Blake Bortles was the first quarterback taken, going to the Jacksonville Jaguars at number 3, while Johnny Manziel fell to the 22nd spot and the Cleveland Browns, although not as bad as Teddy Bridgewater and the 32nd pick, going to the Minnesota Vikings.

A few months ago Michael Sam, coming out of the closet and leaving Missouri to try and become the first openly gay player in the NFL, was the biggest thing in sports. On the eve of the 2014 NFL Draft, it seems like the buzz around him doesn’t exist, which means it won’t be too much of a surprise to see him go through all seven rounds without getting picked.
