Golden State Warriors – Stephen Curry Takes a Backseat to David Lee & Andrew Bogut

Golden State Warriors – Stephen Curry Takes a Backseat to David Lee & Andrew Bogut

Clippers Warriors Basketball

The games between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers are usually than a 111-92 win for the Dubs, with Stephen Curry doing quite well as usual, but most of the job was done by their inside duo of David Lee and Andrew Bogut, who usually do very well against the Clips.

Curry led the team with 22 points, adding 7 assists on a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc, but it was David Lee (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Andrew Bogut (14 points, 17 rebounds, 7-of-11 from the field) that made it extremely difficult for the Clippers to defend.

A lot has been said about the improved, well, everything for the Clippers this season. However, without Chris Paul doing the defense, their pick & roll adjustments failed time and time again, with both DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin over committing to the switch and leaving a lot of space and mismatches for the Warriors to expose, or simply resulting in open shots for Curry , who didn’t get a lot of help from his teammates when it came to outside shooting.

Curry, Lee

The Warriors tied or set a new season high in points in the paint and dunks while the Clippers set season lows in both categories: 66 points and 12 dunks for the Warriors; only 22 points and 2 dunks for the Clippers, who also shot only 39.3% while inside the paint, getting 29 points from Blake Griffin but only 9 from DeAndre Jordan and a terrible 1-of-9 day from the field coming from Jamal Crawford.

If our defense is switched on like it was tonight, we have a chance to be a very good team. We’ve had some special nights, so it’s not like we are trying to reach for something we are not capable of doing. We are all well aware of it. What I liked about tonight was that we set the tone early and battled.

Andre Iguodala still isn’t scoring the way some would like to see from him, but the highlight moves keep coming, and his defense on Matt Barnes and J.J. Redick forced the Clippers to take bad shots again and again, finishing with only 40.8% from the field.

Like plenty of teams around the league, with so much offensive talent it’s sometimes difficult to see how much the defense brings to the table. The Warriors brought the needed energy against the Clippers, but that’s a given in this kind of rivalry. This defensive intensity and not to mention offensive thinking (instead of just going with what’s easy) needs to happen even against opponents that don’t bring out the fire out of the Warriors.

I don’t think there was a chance for chippiness tonight. If anybody would have got chippy in this game, they would have been suspended for the year. Why would you be chippy tonight? You’re down by 30. The energy was bad. I just didn’t really feel like I ever had that wind or that second gear.

Sometimes, there’s no need for fighting or on court fireworks ot make a game interesting. Seeing the Warriors put on an almost complete performance on both sides of the ball is enough to make it entertaining.
