The weekend kicked off with a busy night of NBA basketball, including the Cleveland Cavaliers improving to 3-0 after another impressive all-around performance by LeBron James, the Chicago Bulls looking good without too much from Jimmy Butler or Dwyane Wade, and the San Antonio Spurs easily handling the poor New Orleans Pelicans, off to a 3-0 start as well.

The first Friday night of the new NBA season provided a clutch win for the Cleveland Cavaliers off a Kyrie Irving three-pointer, the first win for the new era Brooklyn Nets with Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin combining well, a one-man show for Russell Westbrook in an overtime win for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Kevin Durant leading the Golden State Warriors to their first victory of the season, leaving Anthony Davis with huge numbers but another disappointment.

The Chicago Bulls opened the Jimmy Butler-Rajon Rondo-Dwyane Wade era with a win over the Boston Celtics, which had an interesting combination of some terrible shooting efficiency, surprisingly accurate 3-point barrage and mostly using their size to bully their way to a meaningful home win, which probably sets something of a blueprint going forward, until everyone is on the same page.

Overall, no surprise that the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 122-117 on opening night for both teams, with the Nets eating up a big lead in the final minutes. Jeremy Lin didn’t have a dream debut, but he played well enough to leave us wanting more, while the team around him showed once more how much work needs to be done.
