2014 World Cup – Trends of Comebacks & Goals Continue
There’s a pattern to this world cup and it simply won’t go away. It’s not just the abundance of goals which makes us feel like we’re back in the 1950s when teams played with three defenders and seven attacking players, but knowing that scoring first means absolutely nothing, as Switzerland became the next team to not let an early slip ruin their day.

After eight years Lionel Messi finally has a World Cup, leading Argentina to a 2-1 win over Bosnia in a tense and close match that opened with the favorites in Group F taking the lead early after an own goal by Sead Kolasinac and ended with Vedad Ibisevic giving the Bosnian side some false hope in the final minutes.

Match Highlights – France vs Honduras
For the first time we had a match in this World Cup that had a chance of being remembered more for its brutality and violence and not the football, but eventually Honduras calmed down and accepted their fate of losing to a much better side, as France came away with a 3-0 win to take the top spot in Group E, getting a brace from Karim Benzema and another own goal off of goalkeeper Noel Valladares.

Match Highlights – Switzerland vs Ecuador
Another fantastic match to open play in Group E of the 2014 World Cup, as Switzerland conjure up a dramatic win with a Haris Serefovic goal in the very last minute of injury time, beating Ecuador 2-1. The South Americans actually took the lead through Enner Valencia, but another substitute, Admir Mehmedi, equalized early in the second half.

2014 World Cup – A Tournament of Comebacks, Goals & No Draws
One of the more easily picked up trends in the 2014 World Cup so far has been the one in which teams don’t really mind conceding first. Of the eight matches we’ve had, there still hasn’t been a single draw, while Brazil, the Netherlands, the Ivory Coast and Costa Rica have all come back from being the first to give up a goal. And there have been plenty of goals.

Match Highlights – England vs Italy
Another clash of giants resulted in a very enjoyable match, as Italy beat England 2-1 with an opening goal from Claudio Marchisio and a winner from Mario Balotelli, while Daniel Sturridge scored an equalizer that lasted until midway through the second half. Match Highlights – Uruguay vs Costa Rica
The trend continues – surprising results and plenty of goals, as Costa Rica open the matches of Group D with a stunning 3-1 win over Uruguay who were playing without Luis Suarez and held the lead through Edinson Cavani. A brilliant Joel Campbell equalized, followed by goals from Oscar Duarte and substitute Marco Urena to claim a 3-1 win, with Maxi Pereira sent off in injury time.

Match Highlights – Colombia vs Greece
Things were made very clear about two of the teams in Group C, as Colombia looked fantastic in their 3-0 win over the declining Greece with a quick Pablo Armero goal followed by more celebration worthy goals from Teofilo Gutierrez and in injury time from the excellent James Rodriguez.

Match Highlights – Chile vs Australia
Two very different teams met in Cuiaba to end the second day of football and the first round of matches in Group B. Chile played a brilliant first half, enough for them to beat Australia 3-1, relying mostly on Alexis Sanchez and his skills with a goal and an assist, while Tim Cahill gave Australia a fighting chance and hope for most of the second half.

Match Highlights – Spain vs Netherlands
Everything written about the weakness of the Dutch side can be scrapped. Two goals from Robin van Persie and two from Arjen Robben led the Netherlands to an incredible 5-1 victory over Spain in something of a revenge match to the previous World Cup final, coming back from a goal down after the defending champions got a penalty kick they didn’t deserve.
