Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, while Neymar picked up the Puskas award for 2011 goal of the year.

    Barcelona earned a tough 1-0 win over Grananda thanks to Xavi’s fantastic free kick goal, his fourth of the season and more importantly, putting Barcelona, at least temporarily, on top of the La Liga table, waiting for Real Madrid and Levante to stumble.

    A new award, like we didn’t have enough. With the Ballon D’Or and FIFA Player of the year becoming one, UEFA have come out with their version, UEFA Best Player in Europe award, selected by journalists from all 53 UEFA members. Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Cristiano Ronaldo finished as the top 3 players on the ballots this season. Who’s first? We’ll know in August, during the Champions League Group Stage draw.

    Playing in England, at Wembley, didn’t help Manchester United. Barcelona won the 2011 Champions League final with a 3-1 scoreline (Pedro, Villa, Messi) that should have been much more. Wayne Rooney scored for United, who were no match for Barca, en route to their third UCL title in six years.
