Lions Over Giants – New Season, Same Problems
It seemed that everything the Detroit Lions were hoping to achieve heading into the new season came out working perfectly in the opener, beating the New York Giants 35-14 as Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson clicked brilliantly. On the other side, the same problems the Giants had last season haven’t gone away, with another abysmal performance from Eli Manning.

Falcons Over Saints – Always the Best Game to Start With
The NFL loves putting the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints together to open the season with and the fierce NFC South rivals rarely disappoint, as the Falcons dug themselves out of a 13-point hole to come away with a 37-34 win that didn’t feature a whole lot of defense on both sides, giving Matt Ryan and Drew Brees the opportunity to put up big numbers.
-
Bills Over Bears – Some Problems Never Change
A defense that can’t stop the run and one Jay Cutler who can’t hold himself back from throwing interceptions; a known problem for the Chicago Bears, losing 23-20 at home in overtime to the Buffalo Bills, doing exactly what the books says to against teams without the ability to stop the ground game.
-
49ers Over Cowboys – Over Before it Even Began
If the Dallas Cowboys were worried about their defense going into the season, it seems like Tony Romo might be a bigger concern, throwing three interceptions in a 28-17 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers, whose defense made things very easy for Colin Kaepernick in a game that turned to be a bad indication of what this season will be like.
-
Dolphins Over Patriots – Maybe This Time They’re For Real
There’s nothing new about the New England Patriots losing on the road to the Miami Dolphins, but it’s rare to see it happening this way, with Tom Brady looking so helpless for the entire second half while Ryan Tannehill stepped it up to lead his team from behind towards a 33-20 opening day victory.
-
Broncos Over Colts – No One Actually Pleased
Some games don’t please anyone. Obviously, the losers, the Indianapolis Colts, weren’t happy with an awful first half and overall losing 31-24, but the Denver Broncos weren’t exactly proud of how they almost let the game slip away from them. Peyton Manning needed his defense, which made things very difficult for Andrew Luck all game long, to pick up the slack.

NFL – Week 1 Predictions (49ers vs Cowboys, Colts vs Broncos)
The two most interesting games as the NFL sparks back into action with a full Sunday schedule are those on the edges: The early game between the San Francisco 49ers and its injured/suspended defense and the Dallas Cowboys with plenty of defensive problems themselves, and the late show between the Indianapolis Colts and last year’s Super Bowl losers, the Denver Broncos.
-
Seahawks Over Packers – How a Champion Should Start a Season
The scariest thing about the Seattle Seahawks opening the 2014 NFL season with a 36-16 win over the Green Bay Packers? This could be just the beginning, and they’re only going to get better – be it Russell Wilson hardly making any mistakes at quarterback, Marshawn Lynch being virtually unstoppable or Percy Harvin showing just how dangerous he is when he’s healthy enough to start the season.

Oldest Starting NFL Quarterbacks Heading into the 2014 Season
The top 3 of the oldest starting quarterbacks in the NFL list doesn’t change this year. Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning aren’t just the elders of the game, they’re still at such a high level that’s very hard for much younger guys to reach on a consistent level except for maybe a player or two.

NFL – Packers vs Seahawks Predictions
Things are quite different in the power balance between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers compared to the last time they played. No more replacement referees, but also the home team in the 2014 NFL season opener are the defending Super Bowl champions.
