Nets vs Raptors – Momentary Relief, Not Salvation
The Brooklyn Nets are still an expensive, yet pretty bad basketball team, with Jason Kidd not really doing a great job in his attempt to lead them. But there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel for them, as their 102-100 win over the Toronto Raptors showed, suggesting that even without their two best players, there’s still hope to create a foundation that will eventually get them into the playoffs.

Pistons vs Nets – Most Expensive Team Might Also be the Worst
One of the most interesting things about the early failures of the Brooklyn Nets despite all of the money and expectations is that everyone, from the last bench player to the head coach, seem to think that this isn’t a systematic thing, but more of “our luck will change” issue by what they’re telling the media after losses, which didn’t change after losing 109-97 to the Detroit Pistons.

Nets vs Timberwolves – Kevin Love Continues His Double Double Crusade
It’s hard to believe anyone is going to vote for Kevin Love when the MVP award is up. Too much of a numbers guy on a good, but not great Minnesota Timberwolves team. However, it’s hard to deny how well he’s playing, with the stats to show it, including 13 double-double performances since the start of the season, adding another one (17-16) as his team easily brushed aside the pathetic Brooklyn Nets 111-81.

Nets vs Heat – Paul Pierce Can Still Stop LeBron James
The Brooklyn Nets still have more to prove before they become legitimate title contenders, but by beating the Miami Heat, handing the NBA champions their second straight loss, they prove they’re on the right path to get there, mostly having Paul Pierce to thank for his offense and excellent defense for most of the game on LeBron James, leading to the 101-100 win.

NBA – Heat vs Nets Predictions
The aspiring and expensive project the Brooklyn Nets are trying to get off the ground didn’t work out too well on the seasons’ opening night, although the Miami Heat are also heading into this game following a loss. However, LeBron James won’t show up to this game without Dwyane Wade.

Kevin Garnett is Acting Like a Grumpy Old Man
Never a big fan of LeBron James, and actually someone that stood in his way quite a few times, Kevin Garnett is finding it very difficult to to be judged by those he loved criticizing, mocking and terrorizing on the court. Garnett left the Boston Celtics, just like Ray Allen did in the past, and so did LeBron James during his decision fiasco.

Brooklyn Nets – Paul Pierce With a Forgettable Debut
The first game of the preseason was a chance for new head coach Jason Kidd to get his first win, and for the Brooklyn Nets to show the depth they have on bench, which they’re going to need if Paul Pierce is going to play as badly as he did on his debut.

NBA Players on Max Contracts
In the changing landscape of the NBA’s salary cap as more and more regulations from the latest CBA come into play, there are currently 22 players in the league with a max contract, including a few teams – New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers, with two or more players getting a max deal.

Winners & Losers From the New CBA in the NBA
While having money to spend over the luxury tax is never a bad thing, the CBA entering its third year in the NBA has made it more about wise financial management more than ever. Teams like the Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies have made the right choices, each in its own way, while the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks have been on the wrong end of the new agreement.

Derrick Rose is the Most Important Player in the NBA This Season
With a regular season as long as the one the NBA has (82 games), there isn’t just one storyline to hold the fabric of interest together. With all due respect to LeBron James rising among the game’s legends, Kevin Durant still trying to be the best and Kobe Bryant trying to not lose with the Lakers, Derrick Rose and his comeback attempt with the Chicago Bulls should be the best one to follow in 2014.
