Houston Texans – Andre Johnson Finally Has Some Wide Receiver Help
It’ never too late to note that preseason games aren’t about winning, but about putting a team together and giving opportunity for players to prove they should be part of the plan. Andre Johnson looks as good as ever for the Houston Texans, but unlike previous years, he seems to have a lot more help in the receiving game.

San Francisco 49ers – Looking Like a Super Bowl Team Again
Preseason is a dangerous time that can make you get carried away, but the San Francisco 49ers look extremely ready and prepared for the new season by the way their first team was playing, including excellent passing (and no running) from Colin Kaepernick while the defense looked as dominant as it has been for the last couple of years.

New Orleans Saints – Hiding Things Until the Regular Season
It seems that everything the New Orleans Saints are doing this preseason isn’t about going all the way, but about keeping things, schemes and plays under a lid. Restraining Drew Brees and their revamped defense, in hope it’ll pay off once the regular season starts.

Indianapolis Colts – Andrew Luck Takes a Backseat to Defense
Not that Andrew Luck did badly in a very well rounded performance by the Indianapolis Colts, but the impressive thing to take from their third preseason game was the way their defense performed and even put up points on the board, which is going to be crucial as Luck & Colts search for anyway to take the pressure off of him.

Washington Redskins – Rex Grossman Might Not be Such a Bad Option
The quarterback injury situation is a worrying item on the Washington Redskins list of preseason no-nos, but Rex Grossman, the man so easy to ridicule and criticize, did a pretty good job with most of the focus going to players not on the field or leaving it due to injury.

Dallas Cowboys – Tony Romo & First Team Offense Finally Come Through
The Dallas Cowboys needed a big game from their quarterback, Tony Romo, and the first team offense, to start shedding the doubts about a team that didn’t do badly early in the preseason, but seemed to struggle putting points on the board when the predicted starters were on the field. From the passing game to the running game, the Cowboys looked sharp from almost every angle.

New York Jets – Mark Sanchez & Geno Smith Combine For Interceptions & Injuries
The New York Jets wanted Geno Smith to show them that it’s OK to name him as their opening day starter, but he went ahead and threw three interceptions. So Mark Sanchez gets one quarter of football to show he deserves to keep his job, and while playing quite well, he gets injured and is now doubtful for week 1.

Baltimore Ravens – Joe Flacco Between Perfection and Awfulness
In what could only be described as a two-faced performance from the Baltimore Ravens, the easiest thing to notice was Joe Flacco acting like the all-commanding Super Bowl MVP he is on some drives and making the simplest of mistakes on others, showing he’s not quite ready to be the perfect quarterback some expect him to be.
-
New England Patriots – Tom Brady Responsible for Some Ugly Offense
In what is probably his final preseason appearance in 2013, Tom Brady looked disjointed and confused in an awful offensive performance, as the New England Patriots failed to get anything done with their first-team offense and had to wait until the final minute of the game in order to score their only touchdown.

Carolina Panthers – Defense & Special Teams Seem to be Just Fine
Nothing special from Cam Newton or the running game, but the Carolina Panthers got plenty of offense from defensive players and special teams, including Ted Ginn Jr. returning a punt for a touchdown, and two interceptions and a fumble returned for scores as well, making up for their attack’s lack of productivity.
