  • Real Madrid, Ronaldo & Mourinho – Finally Champions

    Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t won a league title since his final year with Manchester United in 2009. Mourinho didn’t have to wait that long (2010 with Inter) although it probably seemed like forever until finally clinching the title. Real Madrid finally broke the Barcelona hegemony, winning their first La Liga Championship since 2008.

  • Papiss Cisse, Goal of the Year, Player of the Year

    Papiss Cisse has been more than impressive for Newcastle since signing with the Magpies on January 2012. Now he’s gone on and scored the goal of the season in the Premiership, leading Newcastle to 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, cementing his incredible 2012 campaign as the best in the league.

  • Lionel Messi Sets Record For Goals in a Single Season

    Lionel Messi won’t win another league title or Champions League trophy with Barcelona this season, but it seems he’s closing in on the Pichichi, meanwhile setting a new record for goals scored in a single European season, reaching 68 goals in all competition after his hat trick in the 4-1 win over Malaga.

  • Jose Mourinho on Championships, Bilbao and Guardiola

    Jose Mourinho needs a win tonight at the San Mames against Athletic Bilbao to clinch his first major title as a Real Madrid coach and his seventh championship since he became a manager. The Champions League exit may have hurt a little, but as we move further away from the tense days of the Clasico, Mourinho is back on talking terms with the media, even regarding Guardiola.

  • Aftermath of the City – United Manchester Derby

    Roberto Mancini did an excellent job of picking up his players from their horrendous late March – early April collapse. Having Wolves on the schedule is always nice, but instead of folding the title race, City just turned up the pressure on Manchester United, culminating in their 1-0 derby win that puts them back at the top of the table.

  • Vincent Kompany Decides Manchester Derby and Perhaps Title Race (City vs United)

    Manchester City haven’t beaten their city rivals twice in the same season since 1970. No team has ever turned an 8 point deficit this late in the season. Vincent Kompany scored the only goal at the Etihad stadium, giving City the edge over Manchester United in the Premiership title race thanks to goal difference.

  • Messi vs Ronaldo – The Only Race Still Not Over

    Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo chasing another Pichichi title is pretty much the only thing still remaining for the two Clasico rivals. Barcelona did beat Rayo Vallecano 7-0, staying 7 points behind Real Madrid, who beat Sevilla 3-0. With three matches and nine points left in the bank, there’s not much meat left in the La Liga title race.

  • Luis Suarez and Liverpool Flourishing When It Doesn’t Matter

    Hat-tricks usually pack more of a punch, unfairly at times. They also create expectations, sometimes unfairly as well. Luis Suarez met no post or crossbar to deny him his brilliance, leading Liverpool to a 3-0 win over Norwich. Suarez also scored on of the best goals this season with a brilliant 45 yard chip over John Ruddy.

  • Graham Alexander Shows How to Retire Like a Legend

    Graham Alexander couldn’t have ended his 22 year career in English football any better. Coming on for a cameo appearance in the 83rd minute, Alexander scored a free kick, his specialty, at stoppage time, jumping into the stands to celebrate with the Preston North End fans.
