MLB Playoffs – Los Angeles Dodgers Division Champions, New York Yankees Officially Out
Some things are known for a long time but need official validation. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 9-1 to win the NL West with another incredible performance from Clayton Kershaw, while the New York Yankees are officially out of the playoffs for a second straight season after losing 9-5 to the Baltimore Orioles.

MLB Playoffs – Pittsburgh Pirates Clinch Spot, St. Louis Cardinals Not Worried
With a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves, the Pittsburgh Pirates have clinched a spot among the two Wild Card teams in the National League, but also have enough time to try and win the NL Central, beating the St. Louis Cardinals to it. The Cards did lose 4-3 to the Chicago Cubs which makes things very interesting for the season finale, but considering their schedule they shouldn’t be too worried.

MLB Playoffs – Oakland Athletics Bounce Back, Pittsburgh Pirates Almost In
After a terrible month, the Oakland Athletics got a walk-off home run from Josh Donaldson to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6, hoping to get some momentum heading into the big finish in the American League, while a 1-0 win for the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Milwaukee Brewers all but clinches their wild card spot behind an excellent pitching performance from Vance Worley.

MLB Playoffs – Detroit Tigers Almost Clinching, Oakland Athletics Keep Slipping
Four teams have so far clinched their spot in the 2014 MLB postseason, but soon there will be more, as the Detroit Tigers took another step towards winning the AL Central after beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2 to extend their lead in the division, while the Oakland A’s, not too long ago the best team in baseball, continue their remarkable collapse with a 3-0 loss at home against the Philadelphia Phillies.

MLB Playoffs – Baltimore Orioles & Washington Nationals are Division Champions
Not quite the World Series or even remotely close, but the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East and the Washington Nationals in the NL East are the first teams in the 2014 MLB Season to clinch their division, which means they’ll definitely be in the playoffs, following wins over the Toronto Blue Jays and the Atlanta Braves respectively.

One of the more interesting races left in Major League Baseball and the playoffs is that for the top of the AL Central, as the Detroit Tigers got close to erasing the gulf between them and the Kansas City Royals, winning 9-5 to open the two team’s series with a solid start from Justin Verlander and a big hitting day for Torii Hunter.

Royals Over Yankees – Saying Goodbye to the Playoffs
It’s going to take something beyond reason to happen for the New York Yankees to make the playoffs as they were once again shutout in a 2-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals, succumbing to a strong performance from Yordano Ventura and the bullpen, pretty much ruining what should have been a very special day for Derek Jeter.
