It’s that time of year again: After all the bowl games were announced, it was time to narrow the Heisman trophy field down to three players. Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, Collin Klein of Kansas State and Manti Te’o of Notre Dame are in the running to be named College Football’s best player in the 2012 season.

College Football – The 2012-2013 Bowl Season
The crown jewel of the 2012-2013 College Football bowl season will be Notre Dame playing against Alabama in the BCS national championship game, but the Fiesta Bowl, pitting Oregon and Kansas State against each other should be just as good. The Cotton Bowl (Oklahoma vs Texas A&M) and the Chick Fil-A Bowl (LSU vs Clemson) seem like better than the other BCS Bowls this season.

There weren’t that many questions left heading into the final weekend of the regular season in College Football, with one big mystery left to be solves – who joins Notre Dame in the BCS national championship game. Alabama, with a dramatic win over Georgia in the SEC Championship game, are the answer, giving Florida the boost it needed to make it into the Sugar Bowl.

They weren’t even supposed to be playing for the Big Ten title, reaching the conference final only because two other schools are on probation. It didn’t matter to the Wisconsin Badgers, with a third consecutive Rose Bowl game on the line, and Montee Ball, along with Melvin Gordon, delivering the performance of a lifetime.

Florida State Seminoles – ACC Championship Harder Than Expected
If you’d have asked Jimbo Fisher at the beginning of the season if going 11-2 to win the ACC and end up in the Orange Bowl is going to please him, the Florida State head coach was going to agree with you. Seeing as how the season went, there’s a slight feel of disappointment and underachieving in Tallahassee.

Alabama Crimson Tide – Run Behind Eddie Lacy & T.J. Yeldon
When it came down to the final moments, it was A.J. McCarron with the touchdown pass to Amari Cooper that won the game for Alabama, winning them the SEC and sending them to another BCS National Championship game. The names who deserve to be first when this win is mentioned are running backs Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon, combining for 334 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Stanford Cardinal – Kevin Hogan More Than Just a Freshman
Making the big plays in the big games, that’s what greatness is about. Beyond numbers and stats. Kevin Hogan, a freshman quarterback who took over the starting role midway through the 2012 season for Stanford, was also the man who won them the game, the Pac-12 Championship and a rare berth to the Rose Bowl.
