Simple rule to follow. If you want to win the FIFA World Player of the year award, which has now merged into the FIFA Ballon d’Or, you’re going to have Real Madrid or Barcelona on your resume, before or after winning it.

The Ballon d’Or Joke of a Shortlist

The 23 player shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award is filled with mostly Barcelona and Real Madrid players, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo fighting for another award. Quite a few names on the list don’t really belong there.
