The spotlight was on Jacoby Ellsbury, playing in Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox as a member of the New York Yankees for the first time. The crowd was silenced quickly, the boos and jeers didn’t really matter. Ellsbury had a good day on the field, and the Yankees came away with the 9-3 win.

The day didn’t start out too well for both the New York Yankees and their starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, but he settled in gradually, helping out on an excellent offensive display mostly from Ichiro Suzuki and Jacoby Ellsbury, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3.

Even though there’s been talk about the New York Yankees carrying on with their plan to downsize their payroll, recent free agency moves point towards the other direction, as they signed Jacoby Ellsbury, formerly with the Boston Red Sox, on a seven year deal worth $153 million.
