After two losses coming in less than two weeks, the Duke road to the number one spot in the nation seemed closed. It still probably is, at least for another week, but getting Ryan Kelly back with a career-like performance, while beating Miami, the best team in the ACC so far this season, is probably good enough to feel happy about what they’ve done.

It’s been 7 years with 2 Olympic Gold Medals for Mike Krzyzewski, building back a somewhat torn down Dream Team franchise with Jerry Colangelo that suffered from a disappointing run before Coach K took the reigns. However, the 2012 London Olympics were the last time for him, and it’s likely that either Gregg Popovich or Doc Rivers will take over the position.

Well, they certainly feel that way in College Park, putting another dent in the ACC run of the Blue Devils, losing for the third time in conference play and looking unimpressive for yet another time.

This is going to be the argument this week – Have Duke done enough to take over the number one spot in the nation, at least with the voters, at the expense of Indiana? A very big night from Mason Plumlee and yet another win over a top 5 opponent suggests that the Blue Devils deserve that spot.

Duke Blue Devils – Quinn Cook’s Turn to Shine
Duke aren’t a team filled with stars, but there is a clear hierarchy, with Mason Plumlee and Seth Curry taking the higher spots. Still, Quinn Cook was the one who shined during the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, winning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award while surprisingly taking over a game between two top five teams.

Not being completely healthy didn’t really bother Seth Curry, who has the back-court to himself entering his senior year for Duke. If his performance against the national champions is any indication, he’s not going to be talked about as Stephen Curry’s little brother anymore.
