Overall, no surprise that the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 122-117 on opening night for both teams, with the Nets eating up a big lead in the final minutes. Jeremy Lin didn’t have a dream debut, but he played well enough to leave us wanting more, while the team around him showed once more how much work needs to be done.

Paul Pierce was awful once again upon his visit to his former home arena, while Rajon Rondo, in a mistake filled night, pulled the Boston Celtics wagon forward in a rare moment of actually being proud of the work that’s done there this season.

It’s easy to forget about the lackluster basketball with so much emotion in the air as Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce made their return to the TD Garden, playing against the Boston Celtics. They didn’t play very well, but got the win and the love of their former home fans.

So the Brooklyn Nets lost two players in the brawl that began with a hard foul by Kris Humphries on Kevin Garnett. Rajon Rondo lost his head and got ejected, which destroyed any chance the proud but simply not-so-good Boston Celtics had of beating a better team.
