    No less than 37 world record were broken during the 2012 Olympic games on the track, the pool, Cycling, Rowing, Weightlifting, Shooting and Archery competitions, with Usain Bolt anchoring the Jamaican team in the 4×100 and Rebecca Soni of the United States involved in no less than 3 new records, including setting two in the space of 24 hours.

  • Swimming Gold Medal Count of the 2012 Summer Olympics

    Complete American domination, and two individual athletes winning four gold medals each. Michael Phelps made it up to 18 gold medals in what were probably his final Olympic games, finishing strong after a disappointing start. Missy Franklin, only 17, was the female star of the American team with four gold medals, one bronze and two world records.

  • Gold Medal Winners on Day 4 of the 2012 Summer Olympics

    Chad le Clos of South Africa, only 20, ended Michael Phelps’ reign at the 200 meters butterfly, overtaking the man with more medals (19) than any other athlete in the history of the Olympic games with one final stroke. But Phelps did get his first gold of the Olympics, anchoring Team USA to gold, alongside Ryan Lochte, winning the 4×200 meters freestyle relay.

Italy dominated women’s fencing as always while also picking up a surprising gold medal in archery.
