It’s only August, but we might not get to see a better goal than the scissor kick scored by Antoine Griezmann to help Real Sociedad beat Lyon 2-0 in the Champions League playoffs first leg (in France!), getting a lot of attention to himself and his club as they made a huge step en route to reaching the Champions League for only the second time.
The special thing about Sociedad’s win was that both goals scored at the Stade de Gerland were quite spectacular. First it was David Zurutuza with the cross to Griezmann, who couldn’t have connected more perfectly with in the first half, and later on it was more of a solo effort from Seferovic.
Haris Seferovic was first to a bouncing ball near the penalty box, and simply hit it straight in the air to beat Anthony Lopes for a second time on the night, giving Sociedad a win that’s going to be very hard to mess up next week in Spain, while Lyon, who had a lot of expectations from their young squad this season, both in Europe and in France, which included a return to the Champions League, were left in shambles, finishing the match with 10 men and realizing the quality gaps between the sides and possibly the leagues.
