Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspurs made an incredible comeback against Olympiacos this Tuesday night. After being behind two goals, the club from the North London rallied back to score four times and to win this clash, 4-2.
Mourinho’s Troublesome Start
This was one of the most important games of the season for the Spurs. Olympiacos was in a position to severely endanger their knockout stage position, and to jump over them at the end of the group stage. After 20 minutes of play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the guests from Greece had a 2-0 lead. This would put the English team in a position that they need to stay unbeaten in the last game against Bayern in Munich.
Youseff El Arabi and Ruben Semedo were the scorers for the Greeks, who were excellent in the opening 45 minutes. They knew exactly what they want, and executed the gameplan in the best possible way.
However, Mourinho showed why he is called the Special One. After 29 minutes of play, he replaced Eric Dier with Christian Eriksen, which turned out to be a jackpot. From that moment on, the hosts became much better, and the result eventually appeared.
One of the Olympiacos’ players made a terrible mistake, lost the ball, and Dele Alli scored in the first minute of the stoppage time. That was the moment when Spurs caught the momentum and realized that they have a chance to turn the tables.
Superb Second Half
Just five minutes into the second half, hosts struck again. Harry Kane was the executor, after Lucas Moura’s pass. The score was even, and the home team was on the rampage.
Serge Aurier brought the lead to the home team in the 73rd minute, with his superb reaction inside the box. Mourinho and the entire stadium were in ecstasy. The final strike, which knocked out the Greeks happened four minutes afterward with Kane’s second of the game. It was a header on Eriksen’s set-piece, to end this one and secure the UCL round of 16.
Up next, the Spurs will play against Bournemouth this Saturday at home, before traveling to Manchester to face United on Wednesday.
