Taison (Metalist) With the Goal of the Season

Maybe better goals will come as the season progresses, but for now, Brazilian Taison of Metalist owns the goal of the season title, at least by our vote, after his fantastic volley just four minutes from the start in the 3-1 win over Rosenborg in the Europa League.

Surprised to hear the name of both the club and player? You shouldn’t. Metalist have finished third in Ukraine for six consecutive seasons, and made it all the way to the quarter finals of the Europa League last season, the club’s greatest ever achievement in Europe.

Taison, 24, is on his second season with the club and scored 9 goals in 27 matches for the team last season. In the opening goal vs Rosenborg he waited patiently in the box for an accurate cross from another Brazilian, Fininho, who placed a perfect pass for Taison to deliver the perfect finish. Cleiton Xavier (another Brazilian) and Juan Manuel Torres (Argentina) scored the other goals, as Metalist remained joint leaders with Leverkusen in Group K, with qualification to the next round clinched thanks to the win.
