Tottenham vs Newcastle – Tim Krul Puts on a Goalkeeping Show

Two matches without a Premier League goal are distancing Tottenham away from the leading pack, this time due to a Loic Remy goal and an amazing performance from Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal, easily the best goalkeeping performance we’ve seen this season.

The most amazing  came during the Tottenham blitz in the second half, with Christian Eriksen providing most of the danger for Spurs. He missed right in front of Krul, who was already on the pitch without an ability to react to a high ball, sending a soft shot for Krul to save with his foot.

The most brilliant of saves came through an Eriksen free kick. It hit a Newcastle player in the wall, as the deflection went against the direction of Krul’s movement. With an amazing instinct, Krul managed to parry the ball but not clear it from danger.

That’s where Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa came in quite handy. Two Tottenham players reached the ball and Krul first, and even got the ball passed him, but the French international simply shoved everyone out of the way, clearing the danger.

Tottenham had 31 shots at goal, and 14 on target. Krul made quite a few of them look a bit more difficult than they actually were, but keeping a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League is never an easy feat, especially for a team that usually conceded quite easily this season most of the time.

With the win, Newcastle are now 9th with 17 points, only three points behind Tottenham, who fall to sixth in the Premier League and are now five points below Arsenal who lead the league with a game in hand.
