If Colin Kaepernick was feeling like he needed attention, than the San Francisco 49ers got it by not standing up for the national anthem and then saying it’s because “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”. People making memes tried to see the funny side to all of this, although there were much uglier responses as well.
Trying not to make this into too much of a political posts and keep it on the less-serious side of the spectrum, I’ll just say that I don’t think wealthy people aren’t allowed to protest something they think is inherently wrong, in this case in the United States. However, the timing of everything considering where Kaeprnick’s career is compared to two or three years ago, and the other things he could have done or lashed out against when it comes to the problems the black community is facing, makes me think he didn’t really think this one through.
In any case, Kaepernick’s career is quickly spiraling towards not playing in the NFL not too far down the road. For some reason the 49ers kept him and decided to pay him money he’s no longer good for in terms of performances, and it’s more likely that he starts next season as the backup quarterback.
If Kaepernick wasn’t disliked enough by people for simply sucking as an NFL quarterback over the last two years and the perception of him being arrogant, his recent comments have made him even less popular, and maybe closer to outstaying his welcome in San Francisco and the NFL.
