The Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates again in a Kyle Hendricks shutout, mostly helping the St. Louis Cardinals increase their lead in the wild card race from their division rivals. The San Francisco Giants got further behind the Los Angeles Dodgers with an embarrassing home loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Baltimore Orioles, thanks to a late home run by Matt Wieters, get closer to the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox in the AL East, both losing their games.

Toronto Blue Jays 3  Baltimore Orioles 5: The Orioles get back at the Blue Jays thanks to an 8th inning home run by Matt Wieters, breaking a tie by driving home two runs. Zach Britton picked up save number 39 in the 9th inning.

Washington Nationals 3  Philadelphia Phillies 2: Max Scherzer strikes out 11 batters in 8 innings, allowing 3 hits and two runs, as he earns his 15th win of the season. Scherzer also helped out with his 8th RBI of the season, sacrificed for the run.

Tampa Bay Rays 4  Boston Red Sox 3: The Red Sox blow an opportunity to even things up with the Blue Jays, thanks to a game-tying home run by Luke Maile in the 7th inning, and the winner in the 8th, as Evan Longoria blasted one for 406 feet and the victory.

Minnesota Twins 4  Cleveland Indians 5: The Twins lose number 12 in a row, as all the runs in this game were scored before the 5th inning. The Twins had a 4-1 lead early, but Rajai Davis hit a 3-run homer to tie the game, and a RBI double by Francisco Lindor scored Davis in the 4th, winning the game, with Dan Otero doing some good relief work (2.2 innings, 3 k’s) to earn the win.

Chicago White Sox 4  Detroit Tigers 8: The White Sox started out with a 3-0 lead off of Adam Eaton and a Todd Frazier home run. However, it was all Detroit after Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer to put his team on the board, and later driving in two runs with a 6th inning single.

San Diego Padres 3  Atlanta Braves 7: Julio Teheran gets run support for a change to earn only his 4th win this season, striking out 8 in 7 innings. Dansby Swanson stood out with 3 RBIs with an RBI single and a two-run double.

Miami Marlins 4  New York Mets 7: The Mets leave the Marlins behind while trying to keep up with the St. Louis Cardinals, not letting a two-run homer by Christian Yelich to start the game slow them down. Curtis Granderson hit a couple of home runs, and Jeurys Familia got save number 41 after the bullpen nearly ruined the promising lead.

Pittsburgh Pirates 0  Chicago Cubs 3: Kyle Hendricks allowed only 3 hits in 7 innings and the Cubs shutout the Pirates despite getting only 5 hits. Anthony Rizzo with a two run homer and Miguel Montero with an RBI single helped the Cubs win again, this time without the drama.

Seattle Mariners 7  Texas Rangers 8: Fourth straight win for the Rangers, 4th straight loss for Seattle, drifting from playoff contention. The Mariners had a 7-6 lead heading into the 9th, but Rougned Odor hit a two run homer off of Edwin Diaz to hand the division leaders the win.

St. Louis Cardinals 2  Milwaukee Brewers 1: Second straight win for the Cards, needing a 10th inning RBI single from Randal Grichuk to win the game. Both starting pitchers, Adam Wainwright and Wily Peralta, combined for 17 k’s, but the win went to Seung Hwan Oh despite not doing all that well in his relief inning.

Oakland Athletics 1  Houston Astros 3: The Astros keep the pressure on the Tigers, Red Sox and Orioles in their chase after a playoff spot, getting 6 shutout innings from Collin McHugh and home runs from Colby Rasmus and Evan Gattis.

New York Yankees 5  Kansas City Royals 4: The Yankees started with 4 unanswered runs but let the lead slip away, forcing extra innings. In the 10th, an infield single by Jacoby Ellsbury gave Aaron Hicks enough time to reach home and win the game.

Cincinnati Reds 2  Los Angeles Angels 4: The Angels win their fourth in a row and 7 out of their last 10, relying on C.J. Cron and his two home runs to help out Jered Weaver, earning his 10th win of the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks 4  San Francisco Giants 3: More trouble for the Giants, this time against the terrible D-Backs. Zack Greinke had a good game in 6 innings of work to earn the win (12-4, 4.17 ERA), and four runs in the 5th inning, driven by Welington Castillo, Chris Owings (triple) and Jean Segura were too much for the Giants to keep up with, as Johnny Cueto had another bad start.
