While the Chicago Cubs are destroying everything in their way and Kris Bryant is making his case for MVP, the AL Wild card race takes an interesting turn as the Detroit Tigers, sweeping the Chicago White Sox, tie with the Baltimore Orioles for ticket number 2, while the Houston Astros and New York Yankees get closer. In the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals losing puts the New York Mets only 1.5 games behind for the second spot after another win over the Miami Marlins.

Chicago White Sox 2  Detroit Tigers 3: The Tigers complete the sweep over the White Sox with terrific pitching from Justin Verlander (7 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 9 strikeouts) and coming back from two runs down, until the walk off sac fly by Tyler Collins.

Tampa Bay Rays 6  Boston Red Sox 8: The Red Sox move away from the Baltimore Orioles, getting 8th inning RBI singles from Aaron Hill and Jackie Bradley Jr. that broke the 6-6 tie, and earlier Hanley Ramirez hit a grand slam home run.

Seattle Mariners 1  Texas Rangers 14: The Rangers are the first AL team and the second in the majors to make it to 80 wins, handing the Mariners a 5th consecutive loss. Rougned Odor hit two home runs, Adrian Beltre hit one too, making it to 25 this season. Felix Hernandez had a bad day on the mound, pitching for 4 innings before getting pulled.

Oakland Athletics 3  Houston Astros 4: The Astros are right on the Orioles and Tigers tail with a third straight win, coming back from 3 runs down thanks to a wild pitch in the 8th, finishing the comeback with a RBI single by Evan Gattis.

Los Angeles Dodgers 0  Colorado Rockies 7: The Dodgers got crushed in part 1 of the double header, shut out by Tyler Anderson and the bullpen. The Dodgers were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring positions.

Los Angeles Dodgers 10  Colorado Rockies 8: The Dodgers were trailing 8-2 heading into the 8th, but scored 3 runs, and then finished the comeback in the 9th, first with a Josh Reddick RBI single, and then the big one from Andrew Toles, hitting a grand slam homer to win the game.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2  San Francisco Giants 4: Matt Moore looked good in 5.1 innings of work, that included 7 strikeouts. Buster Posey had two RBIs with a double and a sacrifice fly.

Toronto Blue Jays 5  Baltimore Orioles 3: The Blue Jays open up a four game lead over the Orioles, enjoying three home runs by Jose Bautista, Michael Saunders and Russell Martin, while Aaron Sanchez improved to 13-2 this season, giving up one run in six innings.

Cincinnati Reds 0  Los Angeles Angels 3: Quite a performance from Ricky Nolasco, throwing a 4-hitter in nine innings, while C.J. Cron and Jefry Marte took care of runs.

Washington Nationals 2  Philadelphia Phillies 1: The Nationals sweep the Phillies, again. This time Gio Gonzalez paved the way for the impressive all around pitching performance, allowing only two hits in his six innings. A Jayson Werth home run in the 1st inning wasn’t enough, so Wilson Ramos won the game with a 7th inning single.

Minnesota Twins 4  Cleveland Indians 8: The Indians win their third straight, the Twins lose their 13th in a row, worst losing streak for them since 1982. Corey Kluber struck out 11 in 8 innings of work, while Carlos Santana finished with two RBIs, hitting his 28th home run of the season.

San Diego Padres 1  Atlanta Braves 8: Matt Wisler puts in a surprisingly strong performance with 10 strikeouts in 6 innings, allowing 4 hits. Ender Inciarte and Gordon Beckham each got a couple of RBIs.

Miami Marlins 2  New York Mets 5: The Mets hand the Marlins a fifth straight loss while moving closer to the wild card spot, enjoying a two run homer from Wilmer Flores, and winning on a 3-run double by Kelly Johnson.

Pittsburgh Pirates 5  Chicago Cubs 6: The Cubs sweep the Pirates for their 6th  sweep this month alone, making it to 85 wins. Jason Hammel looked good on the mound picking up the win, and although the bullpen bled runs, including Aroldis Chapman, all’s well that ends well. Kris Bryant hit his 36th home run of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals 1  Milwaukee Brewers 3: A three-run homer by Kirk Nieuwenhuis early on put the Brewers in cruise control, getting the win through Matt Garza and the bullpen, handing a big hit to the Cardinals.

New York Yankees 5  Kansas City Royals 4: A second straight win for the Yankees, now only 2.5 games behind the Orioles and Tigers in the wild card race. Starlin Castro had 3 hits and a home run, helping the Yankees overcome a 0-4 start, tipping the game their way with a 13th inning sacrifice fly by Brian McCann.
