The San Francisco Giants finally beat the Chicago Cubs thanks to Madison Bumgarner, while a Toronto Blue Jays loss allowed the Boston Red Sox to tie the lead on top of the AL East, and the Baltimore Orioles to get closer, while improving their odds of winning one of the wild card spots. In the National League wild card, the St. Louis Cardinals losing against the Cincinnati Reds allowed the New York Mets to get within one game.

San Francisco Giants 3  Chicago Cubs 2: The Giants finally take one from the Cubs, as in the ace battle they win thanks to Madison Bumgarner with 10 strikeouts in six innings, doing a bit better than Jake Arrieta. When the Cubs first got on the scoreboard, the Giants already had a 2-0 lead. Good bullpen pitching, and a closing session from Santiago Casilla (30th save) kept the Giants 2 games behind the Dodgers.

Houston Astros 4  Texas Rangers 12: The Rangers win their 7th in a row, starting early with home runs from Adrian Beltre and Nomar Mazara. Ian Desmond scored by stealing home and had an RBI later, Rougned Odor had a couple of RBIs with a late double.

St. Louis Cardinals 1  Cincinnati Reds 9: The Cardinals can’t afford these losses, but they’re now on a 3-game losing streak. Despite walking 7, Dan Straily got the win, with Adam Duvall and Joey Votto adding to their RBI collection in the blowout win.

Toronto Blue Jays 5  Tampa Bay Rays 7: The Blue Jays lose their lead on top of the AL East, and now have just 2 games over the Orioles. Toronto managed to eat away at the 6-run lead the Rays had heading into the 9th, but the earlier work of Blake Snell was too much for them.

New York Yankees 0  Baltimore Orioles 2: The Orioles win their second in a row, holding the Yankees to just 4 hits, while Adam Jones hits home run number 25 this season, and Kevin Gausman throws six innings, allowing only 2 hits while striking out 8.

Atlanta Braves 6  Philadelphia Phillies 4: A big day for Adonis Garcia with two home runs, helping the Braves force extra innings. In the 10th, they scored twice, with two ground outs being enough to win the game.

Milwaukee Brewers 7  Pittsburgh Pirates 4: The Pirates drop their 5th straight, the Brewers win their 3rd in a row. An 8th inning single by Orlando Arice broke the 2-2 tie, and was followed by Manny Pina delivering two RBIs and Keon Broxton (3 hits) helping Arcia reach home for the indestructible lead.

Miami Marlins 3  Cleveland Indians 8: The Marlins can’t close the gap from the Cardinals, with the Indians enjoying a Jason Kipnis home run, while Trevor Bauer earned win number 10, pitching 8.1 strong innings.

Chicago White Sox 3  Minnesota Twins 11: James Shields has another horrific performance, while Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano hit home runs, and Hector Santiago earned win number 11 with six strikeouts.

Washington Nationals 1  New York Mets 3: The Mets are now only one game behind the Cardinals, taking the lead with a 2-RBI single from Curtis Granderson and adding a James Loney double on top of that.

Detroit Tigers 2  Kansas City Royals 5: A result that mostly benefits the AL East teams and the Indians, with Yordano Ventura making it to 10 wins this season, Eric Hosmer hitting home run number 20, and Michael Fulmer having a rare bad day.

Arizona Diamondbacks 9  Colorado Rockies 4: Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and Welington Castillo finished with 3 RBIs, as the D-Backs jumped to a 6-0 lead and actually held on to it for a change.

Boston Red Sox 11  Oakland Athletics 2: The Red Sox win 3rd in a row and tie the Blue Jays on top of the AL East, enjoying a strong outing from Rick Porcello, the 20th home run this season for Hanley Ramirez, and Mookie Betts driving in two runs, making it to 100 RBIs this season.

Los Angeles Angels 10  Seattle Mariners 3: Albert Pujols hit two home runs (28 this season) to take sole control of the 9th place all-time. Kole Calhoun hit two home runs as well, and the Mariners are now 5 games out of the wild card spot.

San Diego Padres 1  Los Angeles Dodgers 5: The Dodgers bounce back, with a dominant Rich Hill pitching performance, allowing just one hit in six innings, striking out 8. As for offense, Josh Reddick finally hit a home run for the Dodgers, and Yasmani Grandal carried on with his strong season.
