Most of the action comes from the AL East, as another New York Yankees win over the Toronto Blue Jays helps them in the wild card standings, while the Boston Red Sox are now tied for the division lead and the Baltimore Orioles move to one game behind. In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals maintain their small edge over the New York Mets, and the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their dominance in the NL West.
Toronto Blue Jays 6 Â New York Yankees 7:Â A 2nd straight win for the Yankees over Toronto, which means things are very tight in the AL East, as the Blue Jays no longer hold sole share of the division lead. The Yankees scoring four runs in the 8th won them the game, beginning with a Didi Gregorius RBI single, and closing with a Chase Headley two-run homer, just enough for the win.
Atlanta Braves 7 Â Washington Nationals 9:Â The Nationals also used the 8th to win the game, scoring 3 runs to break a 6-6 tie, with a throwing error allowing the Nats to take the lead. Trea Turner followed up with a two-RBI single.
St. Louis Cardinals 9 Â Pittsburgh Pirates 7:Â 8th straight loss for the Pirates, while the Cardinals maintain their Wild Card lead over the New York Mets. The Pirates led 6-5 heading into the 9th, but St. Louis hit 3 home runs, with Matt Carpenter tying the game and Randal Grichuk putting them in the lead for good.
Houston Astros 4 Â Cleveland Indians 3:Â A win that keeps the Astros on the tail of the AL East teams while preventing the Indians of getting closer to locking up the AL Central. A 3-run homer to start the game by Marwin Gonzalez did most of the work. Corey Kluber rebounded, but the run support just wasn’t enough.
New York Mets 5 Â Cincinnati Reds 3:Â The Mets remain one game behind the Cardinals following their 4th straight win, coming back from behind in the 7th off a Yoenis Cespedes home run, his 28th of the season, to take the lead for good.
Philadelphia Phillies 4 Â Miami Marlins 3:Â The Phillies put the Marlins possibly out of playoff touch, as Adam Morgan (2-9, 5.90 ERA) ended his losing streak, and two RBIs for Tommy Joseph and Freddy Galvis provided the run support.
Baltimore Orioles 11 Â Tampa Bay Rays 2:Â The Orioles are one game behind both the Blue Jays and the Red Sox, leaning on a Manny Machado grand slam home run (34th of the season). Chris Davis hit another one (35 this season), and so did Adam Jones.
Detroit Tigers 0 Â Chicago White Sox 2:Â Miguel Gonzalez started and David Robertson finished the shutout win, with a Jose Abreu home run helping the White Sox hold back the Tigers from improving their playoff chances.
Chicago Cubs 5 Â Milwaukee Brewers 12:Â Rough day for Jason Hammel, giving up 12 hits and 9 runs in 5.2 innings. Ryan Braun hit a 3-run homer, Jonathan Villar hit his 13th of the season.
Kansas City Royals 10 Â Minnesota Twins 3:Â The Royals keep themselves in the picture as Kendrys Morales hit two home runs (25 this season), and Paulo Orlando helped out with a couple of RBIs.
San Francisco Giants 3  Colorado Rockies 2: The Giants won a game for once, with Eduardo Nunez hitting his 3rd home run since joining the team, and a ninth inning RBI single by Kelby Tomlinson won the game.
Los Angeles Angels 2 Â Oakland Athletics 3:Â Another late win (bunch of them on this day), with 3 runs scored in the 8th inning to come from behind. Ryon Healy put the team on the board, Joey Wendle’s 2-RBI single won it for them.
Texas Rangers 10 Â Seattle Mariners 7:Â Jonathan Lucroy hit a 3-run homer and Elvis Andrus helped with a rare home run, as the Rangers get closer and closer to having home field advantage in the playoffs.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2 Â Los Angeles Dodgers 5:Â The Dodgers maintain their 4-game lead in the NL West, relying on the arm of Ross Stripling, and the consistent offense of Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner.
Boston Red Sox 5 Â San Diego Padres 1:Â The Red Sox are now tied for the lead in the AL East, as Clay Buchholz allowed one run in 6.2 innings, with run support from Chris Young and Jackie Bradley Jr. in the form of home runs doing the rest of the work.
