The NL Wild Card standings become quite congested, as the San Francisco Giants keep losing, while the New York Mets find themselves tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for ticket number 2. The Boston Red Sox grab the lead in the AL East with another win in San Diego, while the New York Yankees get closer as they complete the sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays, enjoying another loss by the Baltimore Orioles.

New York Mets 6  Cincinnati Reds 3: With a fifth straight win, the Mets tie the Cardinals for the second wild card spot. They complete the sweep in Cincinnati, with Jose Reyes kicking off the game with a home run, later joined by Curtis Granderson and Wilmer Flores with long balls too. Noah Syndergaard earned win number 13 with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Baltimore Orioles 6  Tampa Bay Rays 7: The Orioles fall to two games behind the AL East lead, leading 6-5 in the 5th but then giving up two RBIs to Corey Dickerson, winning the game with a go-ahead double in the 7th. Alex Colome struck out two as he saved his 31st win of the season.

Detroit Tigers 4  Chicago White Sox 7: The Tigers fall even further away from the division lead and one game in the wild card, giving up 4 runs in the 8th to lose the game. Justin Morneau started the rally with an RBI double, and the lead went to Chicago for good following a Avisail Garcia RBI single.

Los Angeles Angels 1  Oakland Athletics 4: Someone finally cools off the Angels, as the A’s Jharel Cotton’s major league debut ends with an earned win, striking out 3 in 6.1 innings, giving up only 2 hits and one run. Ryon Healy scored the 4th run with his 7th home run of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals 3  Pittsburgh Pirates 4: It might be too late for the Bucs to make the playoffs (odds at 3.5% according to ESPN), but they can screw it for their division rival. Jung Ho Kang hit a home run in the 8th inning to break the tie and grab the lead, followed by Tony Watson saving the game.

Toronto Blue Jays 0  New York Yankees 2: Third straight loss for Toronto, losing the division lead to the Red Sox. The Yankees complete their sweep to move 2.5 games behind the second wild card spot, as Bryan Mitchell and Luis Severino do most of the shutout work, while a two-out home run by Starlin Castro and a Brian McCann RBI single provides the little offense necessary.

Atlanta Braves 4  Washington Nationals 5: Another Stephen Strasburg injury darkens the mood despite the win, as Anthony Rendon saves the day in the 10th inning to force more innings, and Wilson Ramos followed through with the walk off RBI in the 11th.

Houston Astros 5  Cleveland Indians 6: Carlos Carrasco gave up a home run and four scores overall, but made it through 7.1 innings with the win (11-7, 3.15 ERA), while Mike Napoli hit his 32nd home run of the season to bring the Indians from behind and grab the lead for good in the 5th inning.

Phillies 0  Marlins 6: The Marlins are desperately trying to get back in the playoff race, as Andrew Cashner struck out 9 to lead them in the shutout win, his first W for the Marlins. Giancarlo Stanton struck out in his pinch hit appearance, while Martin Prado provided 3 RBIs as the night’s big star.

Chicago Cubs 1  Milwaukee Brewers 2: A second straight loss for the Cubs in Milwaukee, as Anthony Rizzo saw his home run to tie the game being robbed by a terrific play from Keon Broxton. Two home runs by Jonathan Villar provided the win, as the Cubs were held to only 3 hits in the game.

Kansas City Royals 5  Minnesota Twins 6: Big setback for the Royals, falling 4 games behind the wild card spot. The Twins rallied from two runs down thanks to a home run by Robbie Grossman and Miguel Sano tying the game, as a 10-strikeouts performance by Danny Duffy goes to waste.

San Francisco Giants 5  Colorado Rockies 6: The Giants only have 0.5 games ahead in the wild card, which means their awful summer might turn out to be a disaster, with the division title possibly out of reach at this point. The Giants had a 5-3 lead going into the 9th, but Nolan Arenado hit a solo home run to make things close, and a 2-run double by Christian Adames won the game.

Boston Red Sox 7  San Diego Padres 2: Second straight win for the Sox gives them the AL East lead, as David Price struck out 8 on his way to win number 15 this season. Travis Shaw, Hanley Ramirez and Brock Holt provided most of the firepower with a home run for each.

Texas Rangers 3  Seattle Mariners 8: The Mariners scored the first 8 runs of the game. Adam Lind hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and Seth Smith also added a homer.

Arizona Diamondbacks 1  Los Angeles Dodgers 3: 5th straight win for the Dodgers, leading over the Giants by 5 games in the NL West. Yasiel Puig hit his second home run since coming back from the minors, while Robbie Ray striking out 12 in 6 innings wasn’t enough with weak run support.
