While the Boston Red Sox take over the first spot in the AL East, the New York Yankees keep putting pressure in the wild card standings behind the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. In the National League, the San Francisco Giants barely hang on to their wild card standings lead, while the New York Mets remain slightly ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tampa Bay Rays 5  New York Yankees 7: With a sixth straight win, the only thing between the Yankees and the wild card spot are two AL East teams, the Detroit Tigers and trailing all three of them by one game. Both Gary Sanchez and Mark Teixeira hit home runs.

Philadelphia Phillies 4  Washington Nationals 5: Trea Turner hit a couple of home runs, including a solo shot in the ninth inning for the walk off win, breaking the tie.

Cincinnati Reds 4  Pittsburgh Pirates 3: The Reds kept taking the lead, the Pirates kept coming back, but they didn’t bounce back from a sacrifice fly by Jose Peraza, winning the game in the 9th.

Boston Red Sox 13  Toronto Blue Jays 3: The Red Sox open a 2 game lead over the Blue Jays in the AL East, crushing their division rivals thanks to home runs by Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez, while Rick Porcello becomes the first pitcher this season with 20 earned wins.

Baltimore Orioles 3  Detroit Tigers 4: The Orioles drop further from first place while the Tigers tie them for the 2nd wild card slot, winning on an 8th inning home run by Victor Martinez, a strong performance by Michael Fulmer, and the 40th save this season for Francisco Rodriguez.

Los Angeles Dodgers 1  Miami Marlins 4: A spectacular performance by Jose Fernandez, striking out 14 and allowing only 3 hits in 7 innings, while Christian Yelich stands out with 2 hits and an RBI.

New York Mets 6  Atlanta Braves 4: The Braves had a four-run lead, but the Mets stormed back, taking the lead in the 8th as Kelly Johnson hit an RBI double, while the red hot Curtis Granderson added his 26th home run of the season to spark toe comeback.

Kansas City Royals 2  Chicago White Sox 7: A setback for the Royals, as Carlos Rodon struck out 9 batters, while Tyler Saladino and Melky Cabrera each had two RBIs, hurting the playoff chances of their division rivals.

Cleveland Indians 5  Minnesota Twins 4: A lot of early scoring, and one Mike Napoli with a home run, his 32nd of the season off of Tyler Duffey, to keep the Indians at a distance from the Tigers.

Chicago Cubs 2  Houston Astros 0: An impressive shutout performance by Jon Lester, striking out 7 in 7 innings, while Kris Bryant did all of the scoring with a two-run homer in the 5th.

Milwaukee Brewers 3  St. Louis Cardinals 4: The Cards remain 0.5 a game behind the Mets in the wild card thanks to the win, responding quickly to 3 early runs by the Brewers, as home runs from Matt Carpenter and Stephen Piscotty turned the game around.

San Francisco Giants 7  Arizona Diamondbacks 6: The Giants stay on top of the fragile Wild Card Standings, winning in the 12th inning thanks to Kelby Tomlinson hitting an RBI single.

Texas Rangers 2  Los Angeles Angels 1: In a day of late winners, Adrian Beltre played his part with a home run in the 8th inning to break the tie, setting up Sam Dyson’s save.

Seattle Mariners 3  Oakland Athletics 2: Home runs by Mike Zunino and Norichika Aoki provided enough of a cushion for the Mariners to win.

Colorado Rockies 4  San Diego Padres 1: Charlie Blackmon with a two-run homer and starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood with a two-RBI triple did the work for a win in Southern California.
