The interesting playoff race continues, as the Boston Red Sox lose to the Toronto Blue Jays, while the Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees keep winning. Translation? Red Sox still lead the AL East, while the Blue Jays and Orioles hang on to the playoff spots, one game ahead of the Yankees & Tigers in the wild card standings. The Los Angeles Dodgers denied Rich Hill a perfect game by pulling him out after 7 innings. Both the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals win their games to hold the top two wild card spots, as the New York Mets fall for the first time in six games.

Boston Red Sox 2  Toronto Blue Jays 3: The Red Sox remain in the AL East lead, but just by one game. Melvin Upton hit a two-run homer in the 2nd, Jose Bautista hit an RBI single in the third, while the Blue Jays rode J.A. Happ and the bullpen to a crucial win in the playoff race.

Chicago Cubs 1  Houston Astros 2: The win brings the Astros to within two games of the wild card ticket, while the Cubs remain on 90 wins. The Astros scored twice in the third, including off a Alex Bregman home run, as Collin McHugh gets to win the duel with John Lackey, although he did throw for only 5 innings.

Seattle Mariners 14  Oakland A’s 3: A 4th straight win for the Mariners, with Felix Hernandez not allowing a single run in six innings, and the offense of Kyle Seager with a home run, and Nelson Cruz with 3 RBIs, keeps them in the playoff picture.

Tampa Bay Rays 1  New York Yankees 5: The Yankees win number 7 in a row, which means still one game behind the Baltimore Orioles for the wild card ticket. Masahiro Tanaka was terrific, striking out 10 in 7.1 innings, as home runs from Gary Sanchez and Jacoby Ellsbury helped with the run support.

Philadelphia Phillies 0  Washington Nationals 3: Max Scherzer had another strong day with 8 k’s in 6.2 innings, but the win didn’t come until the 8th, when Bryce Harper hit a 3-run homer, his 24th of the season, while the Phillies found no response.

Cincinnati Reds 8  Pittsburgh Pirates 7: A 2nd straight loss, and maybe the final nail in the Pirates playoff hopes coffin. Joey Votto finished with 4 hits and 2 runs, including his 29th homer of the season, which helped keep the Pirates just out of reach as they were making a comeback.

Kansas City Royals 6  Chicago White Sox 5: Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon opened the game with home runs, which allowed the Royals to hold off the White Sox, although it might be too late for them to fulfill their playoff hopes.

Baltimore Orioles 11  Detroit Tigers 3: The Orioles push the Tigers back one game with a big and crucial win, as Matt Wieters hit a couple of home runs, joined by Chris Davis (36th of the season) and Adam Jones in the power hitting performance.

Cleveland Indians 1  Minnesota Twins 2: A loss that hurts the Indians chances of catching up with the Rangers for AL home field rights, giving up a 12th inning RBI single to Joe Mauer, ending the game.

New York Mets 3  Atlanta Braves 4: The 6-game winning streak is over, which means the Mets fall out of the wild card spot, trailing the Cardinals by 0.5 games. Adonis Garcia hit an RBI single in the 10th to provide the walk off win. Matt Kemp hit a sixth inning home run to tie things up and give us extra innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers 5  Miami Marlins 0: Rich Hill played a perfect 7-innings, striking out 9, but the Dodgers pulled him out, something he understands, considering his injury problems. The shutout remained, protected with offense from Joe Pederson who hit two home runs, and one each for Justin Turner and Corey Seager.

Milwaukee Brewers 1  St. Louis Cardinals 5: The Cardinals take over wild card spot number 2 again with a second straight win, led by a strong Adam Wainwright performance (8 innings, 7 k’s) and five runs in the 8th inning to come back from one run down.

San Francisco Giants 11  Arizona Diamondbacks 3: Johnny Cueto earned win number 15 this season as the Giants won 2 in a row, holding on to their wild card spot. Hunter Pence hit his 11th home run of the season, while the Giants had 19 hits, and got two RBIs from Brandon Belt.

Colorado Rockies 3  San Diego Padres 6: A great day for Christian Friedrich, striking out 10 in 7 innings while giving up just two hits. Yangervis Solarte provided the best run support with 3 RBIs, helped by Wil Myers with 2 hits and two RBIs.

Texas Rangers 8  Los Angeles Angels 5: Cole Hamels win was destroyed by some bad bullpen pitching, but the Rangers bounced back from blowing the lead and falling behind, getting a 2-run homer from Jonathan Lucroy to take the lead back and hold on to it this time.
