UFC 203 set the stage for CM Punk to make his MMA debut, but it turned out to be more of a laughing stock, as portrayed by the memes, than anything else. The former WWE champion didn’t last more than one round in the Octagon with Mickey Gall, tapping out after getting brutalized.

The main event was the heavyweight battle between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem, also ending in the first round. And while Overeem was made fun of a little bit after the fight, CM Punk, whose real name is Phillip Jack Brooks, stole the show by lasting 2:17 minutes, losing by submission.

This is two years of training, but CM Punk is also 38 as he enters a sport that is probably too difficult for him at this point to catch up. Gall might not be a bum, but he isn’t even remotely known to people, giving CM Punk the easiest of entries into real fighting, which might end up being his last attempt to win in the steel cage.

Maybe he deserves some sort of respect for trying to switch codes (as some in Rugby refer to the Union-League transfers) and doing it at his age. However, UFC main events should be more than cash/rating grabs with easy-to-predict results. It’s also quite dangerous to put someone this unqualified to try and live his dream, when he’s clearly out of his league. When the fight was over, he didn’t look like someone who had any idea what he was doing.
