The New York Mets lost, but the Chicago Cubs and an almost no hitter from Kyle Hendricks made sure the St. Louis Cardinals remain outside the two playoff spots in the NL Wild Card Standings. The Los Angeles Dodgers widened the gap between them and the San Francisco Giants in the NL West while beating the New York Yankees, falling further behind in the playoff race. The Boston Red Sox continue to lead the AL East, beating the Baltimore Orioles, who hang on to their playoff spot behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
Los Angeles Dodgers 8 Â New York Yankees 2:Â The Dodgers open up some distance from the Giants while sending the Yankees further away from the wild card ticket, getting going early with 4 runs, and finishing the game with home runs from Yasiel Puig and Justin Turner.
New York Mets 1 Â Washington Nationals 8:Â 4th straight win for the Nats, overcoming Mat Latos leaving early with an injury. They scored twice in the first inning on bases-loaded walks, while Latos and Anthony Rendon helped out later with home runs.
Pittsburgh Pirates 2 Â Philadelphia Phillies 6:Â The Pirates are now 6 games behind the wild card spot, almost gone. Jeremy Hellickson struck out 6 in 6.1 innings for the win, Freddy Galvis hit his 18th home run of the season, and rookie Roman Quinn had two hits and two RBIs.
Tampa Bay Rays 2 Â Toronto Blue Jays 3:Â The Blue Jays are still on top of the wild card standings and 2 behind the Red Sox in the AL East, winning the game on a Ezequiel Carrera home run, followed by the benches cleared for a nice little fight.
Baltimore Orioles 2 Â Boston Red Sox 12:Â Looking great for the Red Sox, opening a 2-game lead in the AL East, while the Orioles fall to 3 behind them. David Price was terrific with 9 k’s in 8 innings, David Ortiz hit home run number 536, Chris Young and Hanley Ramirez helped out with big hits of their own.
Minnesota Twins 2 Â Detroit Tigers 4:Â The Tigers won’t catch the Indians in the AL Central, but they’re one game behind the Orioles for the wild card ticket, blowing by the Twins with Ian Kinsler adding a sacrifice fly to his home run from the beginning, followed by Miguel Cabrera hitting his 32nd of the season in the 8th.
Miami Marlins 7 Â Atlanta Braves 12:Â The Braves led 7-0, the Marlins tied it, and then the Braves scored 5 straight to win the game, getting a home run from Nick Markakis and 4 RBIs from Tyler Flowers.
Milwaukee Brewers 0 Â Cincinnati Reds 3:Â The Reds scored all their runs in the 1st inning, kicking things off with Scott Schebler hitting a two-RBI single.
Oakland Athletics 16 Â Kansas City Royals 3:Â The A’s get 17 hits and 10 walks in their impressive win, which included home runs for Khris Davis and Marcus Semien, both finishing with 3 RBIs.
Texas Rangers 4 Â Houston Astros 3:Â Second straight loss for the Astros, falling to 3.5 games behind the wild card ticket. Rougned Odor hit a 12th inning home run to win the game. Evan Gattis hit a 9th inning home run to help Houston drag the game on a little bit longer.
Chicago Cubs 4 Â St. Louis Cardinals 1:Â Kyle Hendricks took a no-hitter bid into the 9th inning and Aroldis Chapman came on for the save. Ben Zobrist hit a home run, and so did Dexter Fowler, as the Cubs keep their rivals out of the playoff picture with this win, for now.
Colorado Rockies 9 Â Arizona Diamondbacks 12:Â After scoring six runs in the 5th and 6th to take a 9-6 lead, the Rockies got blown away by a grand slam home run from Yasmany Tomas, putting Arizona in the lead, for good this time. It was his 29th home run of the season.
Seattle Mariners 8  Los Angeles Angels 1: The Mariners win their 6th in a row, which puts them 2.5 games behind the wild card ticket. Robinson Cano hit his 33rd home run this season, Ben Gamel hit the first of his career.
San Diego Padres 4 Â San Francisco Giants 0:Â Yangervis Solarte keeps up his hot hitting with a couple of RBIs on only 6 pitches thrown to him, while the Giants fall to 4 games behind the Dodgers again.
