Things are getting clearer in the wild card standings, as the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles both win, creating a safe distance between them and the New York Yankees & Seattle Mariners, three games behind. In the National League, the San Francisco Giants beating the St. Louis Cardinals puts them closer to clinching their spot, while a shutout win by the New York Mets helps their lead over the Cardinals grow.

Milwaukee Brewers 4  Chicago Cubs 5: The Cubs celebrate win number 94 of the season, with Aroldis Chapman delivering a 10th inning with 3 strikeouts to earn the win, thanks to Miguel Montero hitting a walk off home run.

Tampa Bay Rays 4  Baltimore Orioles 5: The Orioles keep their spot in the wild card standings top 2, rallying back from an early 0-4 deficit. A J.J. Hardy single in the 8th tied the game, allowing Jonathan Schoop to score. That was followed by Michael Bourn hitting a sacrifice fly, winning the game.

Miami Marlins 3  Philadelphia Phillies 4: Another game that dragged on into extra inning. In the 13th, with Frank Herrmann doing his work for 2 innings on the mound, it was Jimmy Paredes with the pinch hit RBI that won the game for Philadelphia, in walk-off fashion.

New York Yankees 4  Boston Red Sox 7: The Red Sox keep their 2 game lead on top of the AL East, while the Yankees fall to four games behind the wild card spot, maybe too much to overcome at this point. Hanley Ramirez and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit home runs, as the Yankees lost their third in a row.

Detroit Tigers 4  Cleveland Indians 11: Corey Kluber wasn’t great, but he still got the win, thanks to Mike Napoli with 4 RBIs including his 34th home run, a two-run homer this time. The Tigers fall to 3 games behind the wild card spot.

Pittsburgh Pirates 9  Cincinnati Reds 7: A Jung Ho Kang home run helped the Pirates drag the game into extra innings, and in the 10th David Freese and Jordy Mercer delivered the runs the Reds couldn’t answer to.

Minnesota Twins 0  New York Mets 3: The Mets are closer to the playoffs, opening a 2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for the wild card spot. Bartolo Colon was terrific with 7 innings, 6 k’s and only 3 hits allowed, getting the run support he needed from Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera.

Washington Nationals 7  Atlanta Braves 2: Max Scherzer struck out 8 in 7 innings, Trea Turner hit a 2-run homer, joined by Anthony Rendon and Daniel Murphy in the 2-RBI club for the day.

Oakland Athletics 6  Texas Rangers 7: The Rangers keep their distance from the Indians, winning on a walk-off single by Jonathan Lucroy, scoring 2-runs with his hit, helping the Rangers complete a 4-run comeback.

Chicago White Sox 7  Kansas City Royals 4: Finally a good Chris Sale performance ends with a win, striking out 10 in nine innings of work, while home runs from Carlos Sanchez and Melky Cabrera helped pave the way.

San Diego Padres 7  Colorado Rockies 8: Down by 2 runs entering the ninth, the Rockies rallied back through Carlos Gonzalez, Nick Hundley, and finally winning on a walk-off single from Daniel Descalso.

Los Angeles Dodgers 3  Arizona Diamondbacks 2: One step closer towards winning the NL West, the Dodgers enjoy a strong start in the first inning with Justin Turner hitting an RBI triple and later scoring on a passed ball, while Kenta Maeda picked up the win in a solid 5-inning performance.

Toronto Blue Jays 5  Los Angeles Angels 0: The Blue Jays keep the pace to stay among the two wild card teams in the AL, shutting out the Angels with R.A. Dickey winning his start, while Edwin Encarnacion reached home run number 40 this season, helped out by Troy Tulowitzki, also adding a 2-run homer.

Houston Astros 6  Seattle Mariners 0: The Astros won’t make the playoffs, but with this shutout win in Seattle, they might have made sure the Mariners won’t too. Felix Hernandez had a rough day, not making it through the 5th, conceding two home runs in the fifth to Evan Gattis and Marwin Gonzalez.

St. Louis Cardinals 2  San Francisco Giants 8: The Giants won’t catch up with the Dodgers, and the Dodgers won’t be able to catch them. Matt Moore isn’t great, but with enough run support picks up the win. Buster Posey hit his 13th home run of the season, finishing with 4 RBIs, while Brandon Belt helped out with a couple of RBIs too.
