The Toronto Blue Jays take a big step towards clinching the wild card spot while the Baltimore Orioles lose again vs the Boston Red Sox, giving the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers some hope. In the National League, the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals won, while the New York Mets lost, creating a three-way tie on top of the wild card standings, making for a very exciting finish.

Boston Red Sox 5  Baltimore Orioles 2: A second straight win for the Red Sox with the same result, which puts pressure on the Orioles playoff spot. Jackie Bradley Jr. and David Ortiz hit home runs in their sixth consecutive win.

Chicago White Sox 6  Philadelphia Phillies 7: James Shields has another awful performance (giving up 7 runs in 5.1 innings), as Odubel Herrera picked up 3 RBIs, including a two-run homer.

Kansas City Royals 1  New York Yankees 2: The fantastic Andrew Miller strikes out 3 in 1.2 innings to earn the win, brought forth by a walk off single from Brandon Guyer in pinch hitting duty.

Atlanta Braves 5  New York Mets 4: Great work from Julio Teheran to drop the Mets for a 2nd straight game, as a 7th inning 3-run homer by Adonis Garcia gave the Braves a big enough lead the Mets couldn’t erase, despite coming close.

Washington Nationals 0  Miami Marlins 1: Jose Fernandez was terrific with 12 strikeouts in 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits. The bit of offense that won the game came from Giancarlo Stanton, hitting his 27th home run of the season.

New York Yankees 5  Tampa Bay Rays 3: Gary Sanchez continues to swing his bat and hit home runs, number 17 for him this season, while Michael Pineda struck out 11 in only 5.1 innings, although the bullpen earned the win, thanks to Sanchez’ 3-run homer.

Los Angeles Angels 4  Texas Rangers 5: With their 90th win this season, the Rangers are one win away from clinching the AL West. Carlos Beltran with 2 RBIs and home runs by Nomar Mazara and Mitch Moreland did the work at home.

Cincinnati Reds 1  Chicago Cubs 6: The Cubs move up to 96 wins this season, as Jon Lester shines while earning his 18th win of the season, including picking up an RBI off a double in the second. Anthony Rizzo had 3 RBIs thanks to two scoring singles.

Pittsburgh Pirates 6  Milwaukee Brewers 3: Andrew McCutchen, Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer each get two RBIs, as the Pirates continue to have hope that the wild card standings situation somehow develops in their favor.

Detroit Tigers 8  Minnesota Twins 1: Matt Boyd allowed just 3 hits while striking out 7 in 8 innings of work, while home runs from Miguel Cabrera and James McCann provided the fireworks.

St. Louis Cardinals 10  Colorado Rockies 5:  The win puts the Cards in a three-way tie with the Giants and Mets at the top of the wild card standings. Matt Adams and Jedd Gyorko hit home runs, and Adam Wainwright earned the win on a so-so pitching performance, but finished with 4 RBIs for his plate appearances.

San Francisco Giants 2  Los Angeles Dodgers 0: The Giants shutdown the Dodgers to be part of a 3-way tie in the NL Wild card race, but Johnny Cueto had to leave early with a groin strain, which for once didn’t prevent the bullpen from doing its job.

Houston Astros 2  Oakland Athletics 1: A Tony Kemp double in the 7th inning sent the game into extra innings. A 10th inning single by George Springer helped Kemp reach home, and won the game for the Astros, sitting 2 games behind the Orioles for the final wild card spot.

Toronto Blue Jays 10  Seattle Mariners 2: The Blue Jays take the top spot in the wild card standings while pushing the Mariners away, getting 5 quality inning from J.A. Happ, supported by four home runs, including number 42 this season for Edwin Encarnacion.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2  San Diego Padres 5: The Diamondbacks are back at the bottom of the NL West, as their only worthwhile hit, a two-run homer by Paul Goldschmidt, wasn’t enough against some solid pitching and the offense of Adam Rosales, who hit a home run and finished with 4 RBIs.
