In the American League, the wild card standings are still topped by the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, but the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners and even New York Yankees still have a shot, one to 2.5 games behind. In the National League wild card standings, all top 3 teams lost: The St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants remained tied. Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox (in the AL East) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (in the NL West) are getting closer to clinching the division with big wins over division rivals.

St. Louis Cardinals 1  Colorado Rockies 11: Nolan Arenado hit a grand slam home run and Tom Murphy helped out with a 3-run homer as the Rockies prevented the Cardinals from separating in the wild card standings from the Mets & Giants.

Houston Astros 6  Oakland A’s 5: The Astros are putting pressure on the Blue Jays and Orioles with their sweep of the A’s, now one game back in the wild card standings. Evan Gattis hit a couple of home runs, making it to 30 this season, concluding a terrific series for him personally.

Toronto Blue Jays 1  Seattle Mariners 2: The Mariners keep themselves in the discussion thanks to a sacrifice fly by Robinson Cano in the 12th inning, while the Blue Jays remain on top of the wild card standings.

Boston Red Sox 5  Baltimore Orioles 1: The Red Sox beat the Orioles for the third straight time, once again scoring five runs. While they open a five-game lead in the AL East, the Orioles are just one ahead of the chasers for the wild card playoff spot. Clay Buchholz held the Orioles to just 3 hits.

Chicago White Sox 3  Philadelphia Phillies 8: Chris Sale looked bad in just 4 innings of work before being taken off, Tommy Joseph hit his 21st home run of the season, and Jerad Eickhoff earned the win on 7 innings of work, striking out 6.

Kansas City Royals 3  Cleveland Indians 4: Brilliant pitching from Corey Kluber, and both Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santa making it to 79 RBIs this season provided the win.

Atlanta Braves 4  New York Mets 3: Ender Inciarte proved to be the hero of the game, sending the Mets to a third straight loss, first with an RBI to put the Braves in the lead in the 9th, followed by an amazing defensive play to rob Yoenis Cespedes of a game-winning home run.

Washington Nationals 8  Miami Marlins 3: Max Scherzer struck out 8 in 6.2 innings while Ryan Zimmerman and Trea Turner gave the offense the boost it needed with a home run each.

New York Yankees 11  Tampa Bay Rays 5: The Yankees are still in it, 2.5 games behind the wild card spot, getting two home runs from Gary Sanchez who is already at 19, while the pitching of Masahiro Tanaka wasn’t brilliant, but enough to help the Yankees stay ahead.

Los Angeles Angels 5  Texas Rangers 4: Nomar Mazara had a couple of RBIs and so did Carlos Beltran, but a three-run homer by Mike Trout made the difference.

Cincinnati Reds 2  Chicago Cubs 9: The Cubs complete the sweep of the Reds with John Lackey striking out 4, and run support coming from Kris Bryant with his 38th home run of the season and Dexter Fowler hitting a long ball as well.

Pittsburgh Pirates 4  Milwaukee Brewers 1: Andrew McCutchen opened the game with a home run and Sean Rodriguez hit one later one as Pittsburgh won for the second time in a row.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3  San Diego Padres 2: Solid pitching from Zack Greinke provided the security blanket for the D-Backs offense, as two home runs from Paul Goldschmidt made all the difference.

San Francisco Giants 3  Los Angeles Dodgers 9: The free fall continues for the Giants, giving up a 3-run homer to Yasiel Puig and Howie Kendrick added a couple of RBIs. The Dodgers now lead in the NL West by six games.
