2016 College Football Season: 16 Musings on Week 4 Games

Wisconsin vs Michigan State

In week 4 of the 2016 college football season, the spotlight is turned to a couple of big conference games: In the Big Ten, Michigan State hosting Wisconsin might not be entertaining but it’s going to be fun, while in the SEC undefeated Arkansas travel to play loss-less Texas A&M in a semi-clash of styles that could give us the main challenger to Alabama in the division and conference.

  • Georgia Tech do better without expectations and being ranked. They have a history of upsetting ranked teams like Clemson at home under Paul Johnson
  • Things could turn from bad to disaster for USC as they visit an undefeated, #24 Utah team, while switching quarterbacks for the first time this season
  • Alabama hosting Kent State is one of the least interesting to see on Saturday
  • Georgia coming to visit a 2-loss Ole Miss is exactly the kind of games the Bulldogs would throw away in the past. This is a huge test for them to reveal just how serious they are about winning the SEC East
  • After losing in Louisville, Florida State visiting a red hot South Florida isn’t exactly the best cure for a splitting hangover
  • #11 Wisconsin at #8 Michigan State promises to be one of those smash mouth kind of games Big Ten fans love so much, with the Spartans, in the tougher division, certainly less capable of affording a loss
  • Michigan hosting Penn State offers it’s set of risks considering their early struggles against Colorado, but the Nittany Lions simply struggle to take off with the same line problems troubling them year after year
  • Florida playing at Tennessee may finally help us answer the question of whether the Vols are for real or not
  • LSU playing at Auburn could turn out to be a real slugfest, especially with both coaches not trusting any of their quarterbacks
  • #6 Houston playing at Texas State isn’t exactly a trap game, but they did struggle on the road against Cincinnati
  • Oklahoma State coming to play at Baylor presents the Bears with their first real test of the season, and the potential of seeing a lot of points on the board
  • If this Nebraska team is really turning a corner, than a visit to a 1-2 Northwestern team shouldn’t pose too much of a problem
  • UCLA have already lost one big game at home this season. Trying to rectify it against Stanford is going to be extremely difficult
  • Louisville shouldn’t have too much problems at Marshall, but teams often fall after milestone wins like the one they had against the Seminoles last week

  • One shall fall, as #17 Arkansas face #10 Texas A&M at Kyle Field, in an SEC battle between two undefeated teams. A win here for either team will put them as the mandatory challengers for Alabama’s title belt in the SEC West
  • Washington have had good starts before. It’s right around this time of the year that they usually come back to earth. It shouldn’t happen at Arizona, but it might
