The Washington Nationals clinch the NL East, while the New York Mets lose and hold on to the top of the wild card standings, and the San Francisco Giants keep leading the St. Louis Cardinals, despite the latter beating the Chicago Cubs.

In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays remain on top of the wild card standings, against joined by the Baltimore Orioles, taking advantage of the Detroit Tigers losing to the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City Royals 7  Detroit Tigers 4: The Royals push the Tigers out of the top 2 spots in the wild card standings, erasing a two-run deficit in the ninth inning with a two-run double by Paulo Orlando, and the winning, three-run homer by Eric Hosmer.

St. Louis Cardinals 10  Chicago Cubs 4: The Cardinals try to keep up with the Mets and Giants, pummelling Jason Hammel early (left before completing the third inning). Stephen Piscotty hit his 22nd home run of the season and Randal Grichuk stood out with 3 RBIs.

Texas Rangers 5  Oakland Athletics 0: Yu Darvish was terrific, striking out 9 and allowing only 2 hits in 7 innings of work, while Elvis Andrus of all people hit a couple of home runs, responsible for four of the runs scored by Texas.

New York Yankees 0  Toronto Blue Jays 3: The Yankees don’t score a run for the third straight game, falling 4.5 games behind the wild card spot, basically out of it. The Blue Jays establish their hold on the first wild card spot, getting a 3-run homer by Jose Bautista to do all the work.

Boston Red Sox 6  Tampa Bay Rays 4: A 10th straight win for Boston, making it to 91 wins this season, closer and closer to clinching the division. A Dustin Pedroia grand slam home run made most of the difference, while Rick Porcello struck out 9, en route to earning his 22nd win of the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks 1  Baltimore Orioles 6: The Orioles are smiling about playing Arizona this late in the season, helping them get back into the playoff spot through the wild card standings. Wade Miley was one out short of a complete game, tossing 11 strikeouts, while Mark Trumbo hit a 5th inning home run, taking his tally up to 45 this season.

Washington Nationals 6  Pittsburgh Pirates 1: The Nationals clinch their playoff spot led by a couple of RBIs from Bryce Harper and Reynaldo Lopez giving them 5.1 innings of mid-relief to help make it smooth sailing towards celebrations.

Chicago White Sox 8  Cleveland Indians 1: Todd Frazier hit his 39th home run of the season and Melky Cabrera helped out with a couple of RBIs as the White Sox didn’t help the Indians get closer to clinching the AL Central.

Cincinnati Reds 6  Milwaukee Brewers 1: Dan Straily pitched well for 6.2 innings, striking out 5, while Adam Duvall and Joey Votto each picked up a couple of RBIs, Votto’s coming off a 2-run homer, number 26 for him this season.

Seattle Mariners 2  Minnesota Twins 3: The Mariners don’t take the opportunity to match up with the Tigers, losing to a 4th inning home run by Miguel Sano, while Tyler Duffey carried them for most of the remaining innings.

Los Angeles Angels 10  Houston Astros 4: The Angels explode in the last two innings with 9 runs, with Albert Pujols hitting the game-tying RBI and C.J. Cron hitting the one that took the lead, while the Astros didn’t do much but give up runs and look stunned.

Philadelphia Phillies 10  New York Mets 8: The Mets remain on top of the Wild Card Standings, falling behind by 10 runs and almost completing a comeback. Maikel Franco hit his 25th home run of the season, finishing the game with 3 RBIs.

Atlanta Braves 4  Miami Marlins 6: The Marlins pulled ahead for good in the third inning, getting a ground out from Giancarlo Stanton that was enough to go 3-2 up and not relinquish the lead. A.J. Ramos got his 39th save of the season with a couple of strikeouts.

San Francisco Giants 9  San Diego Padres 6: The Giants keep holding on to the number 2 wild card spot, blowing a six-run lead and yet managing to bounce back from that in the 10th, getting a go-ahead RBI from Kelby Tomlinson and a two-run homer from Denard Span to complete the win.

Colorado Rockies 1  Los Angeles Dodgers 14: Clayton Kershaw looked terrific, giving up 3 hits while striking out 6 in 7 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are one win away from clinching the division, enjoying a big grand slam home run from Josh Reddick, only his second homer since arriving before the trade deadline.
