The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees again, but clinched the AL East after the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Both teams still hold the lead in the AL Wild Card standings, chased by the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners. In the National League, the New York Mets continue to sit on top of the wild card standings, enjoying that both the San Francisco Giants (in) and the St. Louis Cardinals (out) lost.
Seattle Mariners 12 Â Houston Astros 4:Â The Mariners stay two games behind the Orioles for the wild card playoff ticket, with an early 3-run homer by Robinson Cano setting the tone for the rest of the game. Kyle Seager sealed the game with a 3-run homer of his own.
Cleveland Indians 3 Â Detroit Tigers 6:Â A second straight win for the Tigers, which keeps them one game behind the Orioles. Miguel Cabrera hit a 3-run homer in the 5th to break the tie and put the Tigers in the lead. The rain ended the game early.
Boston Red Sox 3 Â New York Yankees 5:Â A second straight win for the Yankees over Boston, but it isn’t getting them any closer. The Red Sox still clinched the division after Toronto lost. The Yankees won off a two-run, walk off homer by Mark Teixeira.
Chicago Cubs 4 Â Pittsburgh Pirates 8:Â John Jason hit for the cycle, including his 8th home run of the season, finishing with five RBIs, while Jake Arrieta struggled in 5 innings of work, giving up 10 hits and 7 runs.
Baltimore Orioles 3 Â Toronto Blue Jays 2:Â The Orioles keep their distance from the others while moving to one game behind the Blue Jays as they both occupy the top 2 spots in the wild card standings. The Orioles were behind by two runs in the 8th, but Mark Trumbo hit a solo shot, and Hyun Soo Kim delivered a two-run game winning homer in the ninth.
Philadelphia Phillies 2 Â Atlanta Braves 12:Â Matt Kemp hit his 34th home run of the season and Daniel Castro added 3 RBIs, as the Braves won their second game in a row.
New York Mets 5 Â Miami Marlins 2:Â A second consecutive win in Miami for the Mets, this time with two run homers by Jay Bruce and James Loney, while Seth Lugo and the bullpen did a good job of holding back the Marlins. The Mets are now 1.5 games ahead of 2nd place San Francisco and 2.5 games ahead of the Cardinals.
Minnesota Twins 2 Â Kansas City Royals 5:Â The Royals are mathematically eliminated from the postseason, getting a two run homer from Eric Hosmer, reaching 103 RBIs this season in their win over Minnesota.
Arizona Diamondbacks 3 Â Washington Nationals 0:Â Another rain-shortened game, with Shelby Miller actually earning a win while shutting out the Nationals. He struck out 5, gave up 5 hits and allowed one walk, while Paul Goldschmidt delivered two of the RBIs.
Milwaukee Brewers 5 Â Texas Rangers 8:Â The Rangers came back from two runs down to tie the game, and then win it in the 8th off a three-run homer by Carlos Gomez.
Cincinnati Red 2 Â St. Louis Cardinals 1:Â The Reds are doing a great job of keeping the Cardinals out of the playoffs. A two run single by Adam Duvall in the 3rd inning was enough to carry the Reds to victory, while Anthony DeSclafani earned his ninth win of the season.
Tampa Bay Rays 0 Â Chicago White Sox 1:Â Todd Frazier needed a solo homerun to win the game for the White Sox, his 40th of the season. Miguel Gonzalez did a great job through 8.1 innings, allowing only 3 hits.
Colorado Rockies 2 Â San Francisco Giants 0:Â A good start for Jeff Samardzija with 11 k’s wasn’t enough, as the Giants offense got shut down by Tyler Chatwood. Nolan Arenado and Gerardo Parra drove in the runs for the the Rockies.
Oakland Athletics 6 Â Los Angeles Angels 8:Â Mike Trout took a pitch to the shoulder, while Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons had 2 RBIs each in the Angels win over the A’s.
Los Angeles Dodgers 5  San Diego Padres 6: The Dodgers started with two home runs in the 1st inning, but Hunter Renfroe had a big day, including a home run that went off the roof of the Western Metal Supply Co. building. The game was won by Wil Myers with a groundout to shortstop in the 4th.
If the playoffs started today:
- Orioles or Blue Jays would face the Rangers, Indians would play the Red Sox
- Mets or Giants would play the Cubs, Dodgers would face the Nationals
