Four games between ranked teams in week 6 of the 2016 college football season: Number one Alabama travel to face number 16 Arkansas, number 9 Tennessee visit number 8 Texas A&M in a top 10 SEC clash, number 23 Florida State will try to stop the losing against rivals and number 10 Miami, while the ACC presents another top 25 showdown between number 25 Virginia Tech and number 17 North Carolina. The Texas-Oklahoma rivalry posts another chapter, but like in most recent years, just the Sooners are ranked going into this game.
Here are our thoughts on the 15 games this weekend:
- #3 Clemson vs Boston College: The Eagles do have a good defense, but on the other hand, they lost 49-0 to Virginia Tech. The Tigers shouldn’t struggle too much in this one
- #19 Boise State vs New Mexico: The Lobos lost to New Mexico State this season, and have given up 32 points or more in each of their last three games. This isn’t going to be pretty
- LSU vs #18 Florida: This isn’t going to be a blowout for any side. If LSU score early, Florida don’t have the talent to catch up
- Texas vs #20 Oklahoma: Both teams enter this game battered and bruised. I think the Sooners win in TCU shows they have the quality to put the Longhorns away, but this game rarely develops how it’s usually expected to
- #6 Houston vs Navy: Navy don’t have a good enough offense to keep up with Houston’s scoring in this one
- Indiana vs #2 Ohio State: The Hoosiers are probably better than they’ve been in years, but any loss below three touchdowns will be surprising
- #9 Tennessee vs #8 Texas A&M: Tennessee keep pulling rabbits out of the hat. They haven’t looked as impressive as the Aggies this season, but their competition has been more difficult. I’m not sure they have a good enough defense to stop Trayveon Williams on the ground
- #25 Virginia Tech vs #17 North Carolina: Should be a close game that goes the Tar Heels way. They don’t tend to make the mistakes the Hokies do
- #21 Colorado vs USC: USC’s defense will probably be their achilles heel in this high scoring affair. The Buffaloes aren’t a contender in the Pac-12, but they might finally be on the right path to respectability
- #1 Alabama vs #16 Arkansas: Alabama have won the last 8 games in this series, and their streak will probably continue, although they’ll be spitting blood at the end of their visit to Fayetteville
- #4 Michigan vs Rutgers: The Wolverines will run over the Scarlet Knights, enjoying a team that can’t defend after their tough win over Wisconsin
- #5 Washington vs Oregon: The Huskies are for real as their win over Stanford showed last week. They seem to be in an excellent position to end their 12-game losing streak to Oregon in Eugene of all places. They haven’t won there since 2002
- #23 Florida State vs #10 Miami: FSU have won the last six, but they’re on a two-game losing streak in this season, and with Miami better than before and keeping the Seminoles close in the previous two games, this feels like a ‘Canes win for the first time since 2009
- Arizona vs #24 Utah: The Utes have a chance to bounce back against a very unimpressive Arizona team
- Washington State vs #15 Stanford: The Cougars might be more trouble than some expect, but Stanford should bounce back from their defeat against Washington
