The American League has its championship series set, as the Cleveland Indians completed a 3-0 sweep over the Boston Red Sox, giving David Ortiz a sad farewell at Fenway Park. Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals got closer to eliminating the Los Angeles Dodgers by taking a 2-1 lead, and the San Francisco Giants managed to avoid elimination against the Chicago Cubs, winning on a walk-off double by Joe Panik.

Washington Nationals 8  Los Angeles Dodgers 3 (Nationals lead 2-1): Kenta Maeda had a bad start, and Kenley Jansen of all people had a terrible finish, both of them giving up four runs. The Dodgers actually took the lead with a Corey Seager double, but then came Jayson Werth, Bryce Harper and above all Anthony Rendon with the two-run homer. Carlos Ruiz hit a two-run homer that made it an interesting game again, but the Dodgers bullpen fell apart despite putting their excellent closer on the mound, giving up four runs in the 9th, including a home run to Werth.

Cleveland Indians 4  Boston Red Sox 3 (Indians win 3-0): The David Ortiz farewell from Fenway Park ended by getting swept, as turning to the Indians bullpen and especially Andrew Miller paid off for the Indians. They actually pitched around Ortiz, who got an RBI in. It turned out that former Red Sox, Coco Crisp, a midseason pickup by the Indians, delivered the killing blow with a three run homer, something the Red Sox could chip away at, nothing more.

Chicago Cubs 5  San Francisco Giants 6 (Cubs lead 2-1): The Giants stay alive, and they didn’t even need Madison Bumgarner to do it. Their ace gave up 7 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings, Sergio Romo blew a lead by giving up a 2-run homer, but it ended in the 13th inning, when Joe Panik hit a double that scored Brandon Crawford. Jake Arrieta actually hit a 3-run homer to open the game for the Cubs, but things got out of hand after he was taken off the mound, with Aroldis Chapman blowing the lead.
